The harm is it takes away from the game. Also EA wants you to spend as much time as possible on this app, and you can't blame them for it. That's why this game exists.

This is completely wrong. It takes nothing away from the game. In fact, it adds something, a very useful feature. Collecting from each building is repetitive and time consuming, and is only a small aspect of the game. The OP and those of us who agree with him want an option added that allows us to collect it by using that option. If you feel it "takes away" from the game (a ludicrous opinion, sorry, but it's true), you don't have to use the feature.

EA also probably DON'T want players to spend as much time as possible of the app for several reasons. For one, more players playing for longer periods of time puts more strain on the servers, for one. Also, people playing for longer periods of time may mean they're less likely to spend donuts (premium players spend donuts on premium items and buildings, but they also often spend donuts to speed up tasks, etc, which is directly the opposite of spending more time on the game).

The idea that an autocollect feature (or preferably a building like Tax Collector or something similar) would harm the game or be antithetical to the game's purpose is completely incorrect.
What I'm trying to say is that the point of a game is to play it, not to just log on, hit a button then log off.

And what we're trying to say is that you seem to be missing the fact that the point of the game isn't merely tapping buildings to collect money. Theres more to do than that. You're also missing the point that continuously tapping each building to collect that money and XP is boring and a chore. That isn't something most people enjoy. And if you think about it, gameplay, even as basic as it is in this game, should be enjoyable and fun, not a chore. This solution solves that problem while still allowing you personally to ignore that feature and tap buildings individually.

The problem with the button is how would it be applied- only for buildings that have handshakes? All buildings at once? Does it also include auto-tap for characters?
And how much would it cost? Would it be part of the tutorial levels? Premium item for a lot of donuts? An aspirational item that costs $10 million or more?

The Achilles Heel for the "collect all" is applying it, if it collects every building then it's hurting your town since you might not have anything for people to tap. If it collects only handshakes then it is extremely useful but useless during events that don't require you to tap buildings.

Not really. Someone earlier in the thread had the idea that it's customizable, and it's a fantastic approach:

I agree with the OP. There are several reasons why and I will list a few.

    1. The sheer size of how big this game has become. For long time players, and especially premium players such as myself it is now a HUGE chore to collect all the handshakes, tasks, event items/currency, etc. every time we go to our towns. In the beginning I doubt the developers had any idea of just how big and lengthy this game would be.

    2. Ease of collection. Sometimes, well most of the time, my town is teeming with activity whether it be from the current event, handshakes, or any random task my characters are on. Having the ability to collect all of a certain thing would help a LOT with the simple tap of an icon.

    3. People with limited time/connection issues. This doesn't pertain to me, but those who have limited windows with bad internet, or device issues could get more done while still being able to enjoy the game.

Now, I'm not saying to make it mandatory that the game plays this way, but what harm would it do if there was a setting screen that looked like this?

    Collection Settings

0 - Collect all handshakes per tap
0 - Collect all money on tap
0 - Collect on all complete tasks
    0 - Collect ALL

Now those 0's would be clickable boxes to either turn on or off the settings. This would help streamline things and make it a lot smoother for those who would just like to go into their town and "get the business done" and go back to whatever they need to.

I also feel that there should be some requirement to get these settings unlocked. I would say at least be level 40 AND have completed all the main story line with all the buildings up to that point built. With this being a setting that a player could turn on and off, the players who didn't want to use this feature could leave the game as is.

Look back not too long ago when we got the update where the characters list was added to the upper left corner. What a profound impact that something as simple as that made. Gone were the days of having to hunt through a town to make sure all your characters were making money, and having to shadow buildings/decorations to find some, but you could just tap that icon and BOOM you knew who was free and who wasn't.

No. If tou are lazy, just quit the game. Players who want this should be rallied up and be mocked up in one town. Called lazy town.

Also moderators who want to change the inherit nature of the game shpuld be stripped of their title. Only a giant facepalm is in order.

Again, you're narrowing the gameplay of this game down to only one feature, and literally the most boring feature of the game. Furthermore, you helped boil it down by calling people "lazy" for being sick of collecting buildings manually. I've been doing so for over two years. It's old. It's not fun. The other aspects of the game are, but not that. Wake up and understand that it's an option, not a mandate (ironically those opposed to the idea are mandating it doesn't happen).

Players who don't want this should be examined for masochistic qualities, or at the very least extremely low IQs. Only an idiot would be opposed to this idea, after all. ;)
I agree, if you want all the cash from your buildings you need to work/tap for it.

It occurs to me that a lot of people posting in this thread don't understand games are supposed to be fun... not work. Work is work. Game's are for relaxation. Please understand that.

How does not having to spend time on a mindless chore "take away from the game"?

You still have to tap for a variety of other reasons. Does endlessly tapping on buildings just to collect money somehow make the game more fun/rewarding? No - it's a pain and a drag. It adds nothing to the experience other than annoyance.

There have been other nods toward "convenience". Most seemed really happy with the Christmas lights plunger - did it "take away from the game" that I didn't have to individually have to turn on/off those lights? Nope - it was great that I didn't need to bother with the monotony.

This seems to be a hot-button issue for some, and I don't get it. If you still want to tap all those buildings, go for it - no one would force you to use a "collect all" option...

This option needs to be put in already. It's very boring to tap on every single thing. I would rather spend time building up my town than tapping everything.

For those who don't want it, it can just be an option for them. They don't have to use it. Also, I agree with the earlier post saying that you should reach certain milestones before it's available to you.

I like the idea, but in my personal style of play I do like to keep certain things available for neighbors. What has occurred to me is that maybe you could have a collect all button but divided into broad categories. So say you can click "all houses" and it would collect all of those. That way if you wanted you could leave a couple uncollected and available for neighbors.

Did I explain that clearly? Not sure if it makes sense.

@dirish: games are fun for me when there's a kind of competition. I also played from start and still love tapping everything as it gives me more money/exp so i get ahead of others.

I would agree to this feature if it wouldn't Give you the money and exp from collecting. Then it's up to you what you want.

You don't like the tapping while you want to spend your time decorating while i just place my buildings and love tapping everything. This game has 2 goals: tapping and decorating while enjoying the storylines. You can't change this without changing the whole game.

I think it's a good idea, even if I wouldn't utilize it each time. if I were busy and wanted to go in a quickly collect (mainly for the XP at this point) then I could use a collect all button. Other times, I like to tour around my town, see what I still like and what I want to change. Town building with characters is why I love this game, not just tapping.

I agree with collecting and setting all to characters but not collecting all from buildings, what then will your neighbours have to tap?

My vote would be when you tap, that all the money, exp,FP goes straight to its place, not flop out on the screen blocking the user from tapping other things.

    yes for the button!
For people who have laggy or old devices (like me) its allways a torture to tap everything.

I would like a collect all button, but it might make people's games crash, and knowing the caliber of programmers EA hires I wouldn't expect optimizations any time soon.

    drumnman, read your sig. ;)

Also, I reiterate, untask/task characters. They slip by you when you're scrolling through your town. Besides, buildings are for neighbors. House farmers can put in the effort for their cash crop eyesores.

If EA does this I would miss all the cool screenshots people get of inadvertent character interactions. Let's face it, you put this in you will lose nine tenths of those as everybody will choose the "easy" way so generally never scroll through their Springfields.

I kind of find the whole notion sad anyway. It is part of the modern notion that if something takes more than two seconds it is worth doing. Not everything needs a big "Press to Win" button attached to it. No, how others play this one game doesn't necessarily affect me. How our society is plunging down the "Easy Mode" rabbit hole does affect me. So people have to spend a few minutes actually paying attention to something, what is wrong with that?

While I would like to have this feature, I think EA intended for us to go through our town at a measured pace so that we are always forced to look at it and re-think it. The rationale for that would be that if we are all always looking at our town we will think of ways to improve it and stay interested in it.

It's the same idea of tapping your neighbours. I sorely wish I could just have a "visit all" button, but EA wants you to look around at your neighbours while searching for things to tap. That way you may find something you want to do in your town (and from EA's perspective, perhaps buy some of the premium items).

I don't house-farm because I hate the way it looks. If there were a collect-all button, I would probably would house-farm since I don't have to look at it. I can only speak for myself, but I would probably have less pride in my town if I didn't have to bother to look at it every few hours.

I like this idea, but I wouldn't use it. I like having lots of tappables for my neighbors. The other thing is, I hate having the screen bogged down with icons. I want to see my town. This game is great because the icons are relatively small, but I wouldn't want to keep adding them. Using a building for this type of function would solve that though.

And Neuro, are you still playing Tribez? I quit once they forced fb on us. They even knocked all my friends off since I refuse to log into a game through fb.

Do you people not expect the level of difficulty to increase as you advance in levels? How else can increase difficulty in a game with one, sole action: TOUCH THE SCREEN.

They can't make you tap it harder. You can't tap it more than once at a time. You can only tap it more frequently.

So no, they are not going to add a function that countermands the level of difficulty required for advanced levels.

Unless it made you spend money.

So would you still want a Collect All function if it cost 10 donuts each time?

If so, go ahead and start a petition thread which will illustrate what percentage of people would fork over real life money for it. If 50% of the forum users indicate they would spend 10 donuts per Tap All, I could imagine they would consider it.

Otherwise, you are just suggesting something that is CONTRARY TO THE VERY NATURE OF THE GAME. They WANT you to be tapping a whole bunch!

In America at least, "tapped out" is a euphemism meaning "exhausted". It is a pun and double entendre: exhausted from tapping.

If you don't want to tap so much, just nuke the town. Problem solved.
Clamoring for ways to make it easier, at the highest level of the game, is indeed being lazy. I have to agree. If you don't like it, don't play a game called Tapped Out.
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!

Not much since I got a new tablet. There wasn't a way to transfer my game, so it doesn't get attention anymore. I never had many neighbors on there, anyway, though. I might try to finish out the story at some point.

it's pretty arduous tapping all my buildings and characters, i do agree.... however i like to set up everyone on 24 hr tasks around bedtime. it helps lull me to sleep... constant, dull, repetitious, tapping... tap... tap... ta... tazz.... z.....zzz....zzzz.....

*edit to fix typos because i am a moron who can't type*
