I wonder if choosing A or B is based on where you are from. Meaning would people in the western hemisphere would choose A more and people win the eastern hemisphere would choose B or the other way around.....

I think you may have something here - people often go with what is familiar to them! It would be interesting to see if this is reflected in the results!
I'm on the east coast, with no mountains nearby, so none of the options really fit my surroundings. A just feels right from a "looking at an isometric town" perspective.
I would have chose B if you didn't add C. Thanks for that.
Reference maps are usually drawn with north at the top. Without some valid reason otherwise, why would this be any different? I'm not arbitrarily moving north to the left or right of top-center. That doesn't make sense.
Fun question! Made me think!
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!
I put C as that is where I have my North Pole sign. Where I live there is sea both west and south. Mountains are to the north and west - and also to the south now I come to think of it. Although I live in the south west, today I traveled north to reach the south west. I live in the South West of Scotland so I went through the North West of England.
Mountain ranges in the continental United States run down the map, not across it. Living at the foot of one of those mountain ranges, it makes the most sense to me that the mountains are either west or east. It seems unlikely and unintuitive that the shore would be north, so option B is the most sensical. (At least if we're going to refer to land as being on the right, top, etc. Can't really do that if the mountains are northwest, even if that's the more intuitive option.)
I am finding this topic fascinating. I am particularly fascinated that many players own geographical location influences their orientation in the game.
Living in Portland, Oregon - Ocean is to the west and Mountains are to the east. However that has not influenced me.
I remember back to the beginning of the game when the town was small with just a couple of blocks around the original Simpsons house location. Which is only 2 blocks away from the mountains. If Homer was to walk to the Mountains he would have walked one block left - ie West. If he was to have gone to the sea, he would have gone south until he discovered Squidport did not yet exist and was unable reach the coast . This is where I developed the orientation that the Mountains are to the west.
The map has expanded and the load zone moved east (or south for some) causing different vantage points.

No one would ever be confused by this.

This is definitely the most logical way to see it!
Darn you and your irrefutable logic!
Same here, not even sure why, I just always have
