Some people take the time to enjoy their neighbor's towns. Sometimes I wonder if people enjoy the work I've put into mine.

Surely the whole point of the game is to make a town out of the buildings and decorations?

Not to just plonk them anywhere we choose.

There is no point to this game. It's supposed to be fun. The people who developed the game didn't say "DON'T JUST PUT YOUR BUILDINGS WHERE EVER. that's not how you're supposed to play!!!!"

This game has the flexibility to be played anyway you want to play it.....I love to decorate, so that's mostly what I do in my towns. Everyone has different strategies and tastes. There is no right way to play. I prefer well-designed Springfields that really reflect the imaginations of the players. It's called having fun doing your own thing!

This response I like it. The game is supposed to be fun!!!

This is very true. There is no reward for creative design. It's not like SimCity, where citizens get angry if you design roads poorly and it causes traffic, as an example.

It's because of this open format, that not everyone has the same goals when building. Some people have a town which is merely a collection of features. And if they've paid money for premium features, they have every right to place them as creativity or as randomly as they choose.

This is where the schism occurs.

And why people who prefer to design with INTENT, will often try to seek out LIKE-MINDED players. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I think it's great that there is so much flexibility in how we can play together! And, while I do prefer creative towns, I don't have minimum requirement for it to be my neighbor. I have sloppy as well as creative neighbors.
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!

For those who complain about the dropping of things randomly I ask this question: what is worse, their randomness and lack of "creative" design or house farming towns? Would you rather that they have large tracts of brown, blue, or purple houses or have their towns disorganized?

This was pointed out before but maybe some of these disorganized towns are just feeder towns, the people are in the midst of reorganizing their town, or maybe simply they don't have the time to reorganize their town the way others have theirs because they have actual jobs and lives or they are still trying to get to the top level like us? Any of these are viable reasons for the disorganization and shouldn't be held against people

Well, I ask only that my nieghbors play regularly, at least daily. Everybody will have a few days down time, real life does indeed happen. I think having an organized, even remotely organized, nonhouse farm city tells me they are indeed truly engaged with the game.

Other than that I'm not picky about level, as long as they're trying and playing.

I care about being active - if I can never find anything to tap in your town, I replace you.

I'm not really picky about design, but I can understand it. Many people like to draw inspiration from their neighbors. Get ideas, see creative designs, etc. Thus, the towns with huge house farms or randomly placed buildings just don't meet that need, so they don't want them.

I always tried little things to
Make my town nice. In the past I did have things randomly dropped
On the outskirts awaiting design. Since I got organised and have my SF has flourished, I have drawn a lot of influence from neighbors. I have been taking screen shots to use their influence once I save enough for a nuke. I certainly have some towns that are in the situation I was in, still accumulating money to buy enough land to space things out. I can't wait to see what they do in the future but also really love getting to draw influence from the great towns.
At the moment I don't mind if you're visiting but new players still accumulating FP may want to ensure they have daily visitors, if they want the prizes quickly.
I do care if there is nothing to tap in a friends SF when I visit though. For me, I love free donuts from
Friend visits and as said before, one less friend to tap is a lost opportunity. I don't invest much money into the game so appreciate every free donut I get.

Well, the two are not mutually exclusive, and in fact often seem to go together, with a large tract of house farm on one side and a random jumble of buildings on the other.

You don't need to be at the top level to have an organised town. It is, to my mind, a personality thing. If it matters to you, you'll start organising right from the start. It matters to me, so from the earliest levels I never put down a building without it being on a street; and never added a house without a tree or a fence or a shrub to go with it.

Having someone as a neighbour in TSTO is probably one of the least real social interactions possible. Thus, unfriending someone because you don't like the look of their town is also one of the least real social slights possible. There's no real relationship or interaction, so there's no harm in dropping people for what, in RL, would be a ridiculously trivial reason to end a friendship.

I ask that people try to have nice Springfields is because I would like to be inspired by my neighbors. I don't mind if they don't have a completely perfect Springfield just that they care about it. I do still have neighbors who have large house farms and all their buildings cramed together but those people have been good neighbors so I look past that.

I'm extremely picky when it comes to designing/redesigning my town. (*shakes fist at my OCD*) But as far as my neighbors are concerned... to each his/her own. I used to ask for nicely designed neighborhoods, but not anymore. If I pick up a neighbor who has an awesomely designed town... BONUS! (I DO like to take my time and browse my neighboreeno's designs.) Otherwise... meh. No sweat off my nose. :P

And as long as my neighbors play daily during events, (or as often as possible), that's all I really care about. I try to play as often as I can, daily if possible. But once in a while, there are times when I can't get to it for 2-3 days at a time. (I have deadlines in my real life.) But I always come back.

During events, I try my darndest to play daily.

I used to be more of a stickler. Not anymore. I guess, the longer we play, that sometimes happens.

    To some...

But then again, there are those who have played for AGES and still use spreadsheets.

I just don't have the time for that. :P But more power to those who do!

I personally dislike an ugly, unorganized Springfield. YMMV. Part of the fun (FOR ME) of visiting neighbors (when I do) is seeing the cool stuff they come up with. I can understand if you're going through a redesign or if you have a few buildings jumbled in a corner while you try to come up with something but an entire Springfield that just a bunch of buildings thrown on grass for an extended period of time just isn't my preference.

Why do they need to be active? Neighbor-ship should be mutually beneficial. If you don't have anything to tap when I visit you, why do I need you? And vice-versa.

I like having variety in my neighbors. I'm glad I have both the beautiful towns and the cramped ones and I like being somewhere in the middle. When I first started getting neighbors last October, I was surprised by some of the town layouts. But what matters most to me now is if they are active and will support me during events, and I've gotten a lot of good neighbors.

All of the above wise tappers have made good points.
