Why doesn't EA give pop-up notifications when events go live?

I don't think that's how the push notifications work. I believe they have to add them to the game code via an update for them to appear

I actually got a notification that "Sideshow Bob and the Terwiligers were back." My problem was that I didn't realize that it was an app store update. I just logged into my town and was confused when there was nothing related to the notification.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the push notifications. I'm talking about the little popup windows that show up in-game.

But even if they did one now - why not several hours ago when it was actually released?

I have google play set to auto update the game yet I would have missed days possibly of this event instead of 24 hours than I did, had I not decided to check in on the forum to see what was being discussed during the free time since the end of the last event. Google play didn't bother to update TSTO despite updating some dozen other apps in the last 24 hours. And EA didn't bother to give us in game notice either. In the past I'd open the game and get a popup message stating you need to get an update to continue playing. And that would occur first time I entered the game after an update like this occurred. Now I get to play catch up for the whole event when I should not have needed to.

they're embedded in the code, it's not a server push.

Yeah, you have to update and possibly also start the game before you can get notifications for the event.

But I agree that it would be nice if they were more obvious. I have the game set to auto-update in the store and yet I've only just now started building Monsanto. Not sure how far behind that means I am.

And yet it really doesn't have to be. It's not like they can't do this - they're just choosing not to. I'm just saying - it would be nice if they actually let players know things.

If they did people would fall behind and feel the need to rush things with donuts.
