There's nothing in the game structure that forces you to build or upgrade SH properties. I spent a ton of effort doing so, thinking that surely EA would make SH worth all the trouble at some point. So far, not so. Most of my SH stuff is now in storage since it doesn't generate any income. The only cool thing about SH is being a member of the "Billionaires Club".
It's not. It's designed to be a long term addition. They've added new stuff a few times, and from stuff in the files and the HUGE amount of land that's still unlocked, they obviously intend to release more as time goes by.
I've always felt SH was a bit.....random? Everyone agrees there's a lot of time and effort involved and I still live in hope they'll add something to it to make it a bit more worthwhile. I like the hidden XP multiplier you get from the buildings, but there's just so many and they're huge too!
I really wish they would put some effort into Krustyland. It's just been left alone for far too long and I have a ton of KL tickets that are just accumulating each day.
<<<<perk>>>> Hidden XP multipliers? Really? Please elaborate!
The Springfield Heights buildings have a built-in multiplier for XP only. It isn't included in your overall bonus % multiplier because it doesn't affect cash. Not sure of the breakdown.
It's not hard, it's repetitive, tedious, monotonous, insipid, bland, banal... In other words it's boring.
The real problem is that the system isn't engaging. I just started playing another game in this genre (Minions Paradise - I was curios how it compared) and its crafting-to-build system IS engaging. Instead of just doing the same tasks over and over you have 'recipes' - you craft different things to give you the ingredients to craft other things, which may in turn be required to craft even more things... And it's constantly changing. Plus you don't have specific characters doing specific things - any Minion that's free can do any task so you're never going "Oh, I need coconuts, but the characters I need to pick coconuts are busy digging clams, chipping ice, and cutting bamboo so I can't pick coconuts..."
Another problem with the Heights crafting is the time differential between tasks. Hollywood Awards take 20 minutes and use up other stuff, so if you only check back every 20 minutes to restart all the tasks you use up the 'lower level' ingredients faster than you're making them. Which means you have to sit with it constantly doing the same tasks over and over and over and over...
And no, I don't like crafting while I'm watching TV. I watch shows that require paying attention to what's going on in the show.

words to live by, and its very true, the characters in SH are used in almost everything main story quests, Events/ Event quests, Monorail, Krustyland, etc.
The only thing is, isnt minions paradise main thing crafting? i know it has minigames and whatnot but isnt one if its core concepts a crating system?
As such having a well balanced crafting system makes sense, which is possibly why SH goes wrong.
My suggestion would be more tasks like the ski lodge task, the payout isnt great but it can be done by a non-main/central character.
i know the payout isnt great, but its able to be done in conjunction with the other tasks, not to mention it has a longer time meaning you dont have to check every 2-5 minutes.
Anybody else catch Heights-itis - repetitive building of tasks / grinding of materials to get past the billion mark and then being unable to stop - always sending characters on these tasks until all buildings are at top level and all items bought.
One thing you can do is unlock the land and use it as an extension of your main town. The Lard Lad Donuts buildings I got out of mystery boxes are placed there.
The big wide thin buildings that came out with SH2 can be used to hide things. Like I have my ski lift from the Christmas event hidden behind 1 because I don't like its look but want the bonus from it.
I have upgraded a lot of buildings (on various levels) and have all three private islands upgraded to max and I'm only half way to Ziffs Mansion. I don't see why they have made it do hard to get the prizes. This is a lot of work for not much.
One thing to keep in mind is that the second round of SH buildings have a pretty bad return on investment (in terms of real estate value for crafting materials used). If you want to get the most real estate value for your time spend upgrade all the Deluxe Condos and Modern Mansions to level 5 first.

I have bought all 10 deluxe condos and am trying to level them all up.
I'll go with the simple one. People always complained they had nothing to do in between level updates and events, thus SH was their answer to that problem. It keeps most people occupied months after its release. I for one am taking my time with it, only utilizing it when I start feeling bored.
I don't find it hard just boring. I slogged it out till I got the last prize but now only work on it if needed for the game. I'm not bothered about having everything out or upgraded.

Click the link in my sig for SH tables - the table at the bottom of that thread shows XP bonuses.

THanks for this - I've been looking for this info for a while!!

Hope that answers your question.
