I'm thinking about doing this again, last time I hoarded about 200 tokens. It was definitely an advantage, but now I'm finished with nothing left to do but, collect tokens. So if I start collecting now, I should have several hundred tokens, by the next act, but that means I could probably finish act 3 in one or two days. So now it's a choice between donuts and finish crafting, or an advantage in act 3. I'll probably do what I did last time and hoard tokens the last 2 or 3 days of act 2.
I finished act one about 3 days early, and saved 240 coins - that got me almost instantly to the 4th prize. For Act three, Ill wait until I unlock the last prize for Act two and save around the same amount. The others Ill use to get me to lvl 3 crafting (Im currently at lvl 2 with 2 bars). This is an enjoyable event with a lot of content - but if you have premium characters its pretty easy to complete.
I unlocked Nessie yesterday and Im thinking I should hoard tokens again. I may use some and hit the 100 mark (i have 225 right now) then start hoarding for act 3
Not hoarding yet. I'm at 62500 chips and will have the final Act 2 prize either later today or early tomorrow.
Like I did in Act 1, I'll keep using coins until I get enough crafting materials to go to level 3. I'm one step out of 10 because I've already crafted everything except the "Exotic Tree" - I can make 3 more of those.
Once I have the trees, I'll use the tokens for more craftables.
what's the point in hoarding just to get all the prizes in one day then have nothing to do for the rest of the event? I'm playing as it's supposed to be played. When I get all the prizes and up to level 3 crafting then I'll start saving tokens as there will be no point in spending them.
I don't think there is a particular way that the game is "supposed" to be played. You play as you see fit. If this is how you want to do it, go for it!
I also don't think that the people who are racking up the prizes in the first few days of the level have "nothing to do". There is still a questline that will take the same amount of time, barring the use of donuts to rush it, and then there is the pursuit of bonuts. That's not nothing.

yeah, bonuts are definetly the main task for me, who can say no to the glazed beauty?
Everyone has their own way of playing. Some want to play it out as intended, some will hold onto their tokens to jump ahead the next Act, or just for the sheer amusement of completing an act in an hour or so. As was mentioned before, we'll all get there in the end.
Myself I'm a hoarder and will likely blow it all in Act3, so put me in the "easily amused" camp.
Also I like to have a lot of control over what gets crafted. By waiting to the last few days of the event, I can look at all my pooled resources and figure out the best way to maximize my craftables. Since there is a degree of randomness as to which and how many of each crafting ingredient you get, I'll be able to effectively balance this out since each level upgrade can eventually be done with any material. If I find I have a disproportionate number of Martini glasses, I can use more of these to level up and save up my scarcer resources. With careful planning and patience I can avoid the situation where I have nothing but Martini glasses in the end and am forced to craft a bunch of "Fountain Sequence 2" (one of my goals is to have even numbers of Fountains... it would just annoy me to have 5 of one and 2 of another etc.). Some of the older players will recall the annoyance of the Gummi Bear situation a couple of Halloweens ago....
Also, in theory, level ups could be potentially cheaper since it costs just 20 tickets to level up, or 25 martini glasses. This as compared to 40 and 50 that were spent with coasters and keychains. The later currencies would be much more economical.
Started hoarding way too early and now i'm damned. Damned! It's like playing a game of chance with cregg demon as the stakes. I have no idea if he out of reach or within reach. Very exciting. mmmmm, dubious fun.

I was only just thinking to post something along the same lines! I couldn't agree more
Not only the above points, but during act 1 I worked out exactly what I needed near the end of the day.
101200 chips in total were required - on one town I got exactly that amount and on the other I believe it was 101205.
Doing it this way is probably more efficient, as I can just go all out for bonuts in the last act.

Yes the gummy bears! Arrrghhh!
I do recall how we freaked out over one of the last major events though, when the craftables had been temporarily removed after Act 1 (was that Christmas or THOH?).
That stuck with me, even though I know it was an apparent slip-up. I'm inclined to craft as I go because of that, although I vacillate between leveling up and crafting.
I'm more of a spend, spend, spend kind of gal. Not hoarding. Also, I was away for most of the first act, so didn't have time to play the slots. It was soooooo boring to try to spend those tokens all at once, which I had to do to get Lucius. Can't face that tedium again.
Not yet. I'm finding I can't get the chips I need from casino jobs because no one is there...everyone's constantly recycling right now!
If I can get through that, maybe when I get about halfway to Cregg Demon, then I'll start. I'm almost done with Woodstock right now but that's been slow because of the railyard.
I missed Lucias Sweet because of that.
But I don't have the patience to keep checking back every hour, so starting now, I decided to work on the event instead.
I never stopped hoarding from Act I. I was going to drop feed my chip total with gold tokens as I went along, just to keep me on track, but I'm about a day and a half ahead in Act II, so I've only used 6 tokens in Act II a couple minutes ago, meaning I currently have 675 tokens stored. If I need to drip feed my use of tokens again in Act III I will, but otherwise I'll keep storing until I have all the prizes in Act III, then go crazy with my tokens, using them all up so I can try and finally make some headway with crafting. As of 2am on Thursday 10th of March (which is just 4 months to the day until my Birthday, so start planning my present now!) I have JUST got enough crafting materials to reach level 2, but then be left with nothing to craft the actual items with, which of course is pointless.
An extra benefit of this is all the bonuts I should get, which is great, as I've spent far too much real money this event, especially considering all the ways to get donuts nowadays.
If crafting doesn't get retired soon, I'm going to travel to America, hunt down whoever came up with the idea of crafting, and beat them up! I'm in a wheelchair, so I have some really potent attacks! Running over their foot is a given, that HURTS, but what hurts even more is smashing the foot plates into their shins!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Hey guys, I'm AO (not AOF). I create and run the Event Strategy Threads.
Ok, I'm now down to the last prize in Act 2 (just over 6 days to go, I believe). I want to hoard coins. Do you think it's possible to get the last prize just through tapping tourists and the 4-5 quests at the casino?
If you start saving tokens before you finish with all the act 2 prizes, and time is almost up, you can still use the tokens to get Cregg Demon. You just won't have as many for act 3. I cashed in about 150 tokens at the start of act 2, and I used about 10 more of them to complete a daily challenge for keychains. The rest I am hoarding. Time to make the bonuts!
I just got Cregg Demon and the 40 tokens from the Players Club. Started hoarding tokens until Act 3. After Act 1, I hoarded tokens for only 2 days and got the first 3 items the first day. Might as well continue.
Is anyone else concerned EA might change the prize or bonut track for the last Act? They have been known to make adjustments when aspects of an event have been too easy or hard. It wouldn't surprise me if the changed amount need to 15,000 chips for bonus rounds in the last act because they know so many are hoarding.
