have had the same problem since the 12th, worked great, went to bed then next day boom, game insta-borked for no reason, get to login screen click to play, watch doughnut spin for about 15sec then game closes. keep trying everyday same crap, this is now day 4 hope an update happens soon....
so i tried on another device and worked great. now i am having a totally new issue XD. gonna start a thread about this too but last night the friends portion worked great. now when i try to hit it it crashes.
It's been more than two weeks now for me that the game crashes at loading screen ( both on my Ipod and on Bluestacks ). I haven't been able to act in the last part of the event (and lost a lot of bonuses I had ) . So I'm very disappointed as I've played for many years now

Have you spoken yet with EA support? This is the sort of problem that they typically have difficulty resolving, but it's worth a shot. The other factor to consider is your device. You're not specific about the iPod being used, but if it's an older, lower-end model, it may no longer be able to support the game. Quite a few users reported problems similar to yours during this past event and I suspect we'll see more such reports in the future. If you want to continue playing the game, it's possible you might have to migrate to a newer device. Finally, discussion of emulators is verboten on this forum; suffice to say that EA is under no obligation to support them, so complaining when the game doesn't work properly under one is kinda pointless.
Not saying it is 100% what is happening to you, but I had a similar issue about a year ago. Somehow my Springfield save file on EA's server had gotten corrupted and it caused the game to crash every time I started it on both my iPad and my Android smartphone. EA support was able to resolve it by restoring my Springfield from an earlier backup. Your best bet at this point is probably to contact EA support, and in general sooner is better than later and gives them a better shot at identifying and resolving the problem. If you can tell them as specifically as possible the last time the game worked for you that will help.
