Why valentines appear - I think

I've had no problem getting Valentines on characters that were mid task.

I've had characters collect numerous valentines while in a task. The only thing that effects it is that you have to collect the last Valentine they were offered. Once you accept a valentine, the building associated with that character is once again available for your friends to click on.

Do you have two springfields? This would be the way to test it. Otherwise you wouldn't know if they were midtask or just uncollected. Do you see what I'm saying?

I've noticed that I see the most received valentines in my town when I've left it alone and my characters are waiting to be freed from completed tasks.

They are clearly mid-task since after I collect the hearts, they are still on their task. Plus, I know that I just put them on task.

But that doesn't explain why sometimes I have numerous valentines at one building or character

I don't have two towns, but I know that if I set a character to do a 4-hour task and 15 minutes later he has a valentine over his head that he hasn't "completed" his 4-hour task. Similarly, if I click to accept that valentine and 5 minutes later he has another one, again, he is still mid-task and the only thing that changed is that I accepted the last valentine ...

I've had numerous valentines on buildings occupied by multiple people (Kwik-E-Mart) but I can't remember if I've had multiples on any one character.

This whole process vexes me and I'm determined to figure out the logic behind it.

Tasks have nothing to do with when a visitor can tap on the cards.

It seems to be that if a character is on task, visitors will see a valentine over their "home." If a visitor clicks on that home, a valentine will appear over the character for you to collect it. If that character's task is within the building, then the valentine will be above the building.

I have never seen a character with more than one valentine over his head. I have seen buildings with more than one valentine over it and that's because multiple characters are inside that building.

Just to clarify, you do realize that the building the character is actually in has no bearing on how he gets the valentine? Each of the characters is associated with a particular building in Springfield. When your friends visit, they see Valentine's over those buildings.

For the most part, the buildings are the same ones that "introduced" the character to the game. Wiggum goes with the Police Station. Snake goes with the Prison. Barney goes with the Bowl-O-Rama.

There are a couple of exceptions - Marge was introduced along with Moe at Moe's. A valentine from Moe's seems to go to Moe. Marge, I think, collects from either the Gilded Truffle or Jake's Hair Salon (Not sure which).

ANWAY, your friends click those building to send the character a valentine and then the valentine appears over that character on YOUR screen, wherever that character is. Once they have sent the valentine, that building is unavailable to others for clicking until you accept the characters valentine. (The reason you sometimes go into others' towns and see no available valentines even though they obviously have the update or you wouldn't be there.)

ANyway, that's how it seems to work for me.

It is not task related. I thought characters had to be available to get a valentine, so the only characters that I have had on tasks for the past 24+ hours have been those assigned a quest. i have had plenty of valentines show on those characters not on quests, as well as those that are.

But has anyone figured out the madness of hearts in friends towns? I can send valentines but I don't get a heart every time...some towns I get 0 actually. Some towns don't even have valentines..

This is basically the same way it worked with Halloween. Back then, there were 3 kinds of "rewards" - TP, eggs, or candy.

You bought things with Candy. You used TP and eggs to vandalise your friends town. SOMETIMES when you hit up a friend, you earned another reward. Sometimes you didn't.

It's basically random and it just helps to control the heart economy. If you got one heart for every neighbor valentine you hit, you COULD collect up to 300 hearts from your neighbors. Add that to the fact that you also get up to 300 hearts from your neighbors visting YOU and you would have been earning 600 hearts a day.

As it is, I find that it tends to average out that I earn about 1 heart per neighbor. (Like you said, sometimes I get none. Sometimes I get 2. One time I actually got 3, but the next two neighbors gave me nothing. haha)

When you look at the boards and see that there are already people complaining that they have finished the Valentine's tasks and bought all of the special items, you can just imagine what it would be like if they earned 600 hearts in a day.

Which is why i think they aren't letting us go to all our friends at once. slowly making friends available would slow the amount of hearts one can collect within the first few days of the update would make getting all the items just a bit slower, although most have already still collected everything or almost everything.
