Had this happen to me a while back. Fortunately it was on a minor account as the e-mail address I was using is now defunct so couldn't reset the password. I have no chance of ever getting the game back which I guess is bad news for you guys and not exactly what you want to hear.
I think it was because the password requirements changed to require at least one capital letter which my old passwords didn't have.
It is your responsibility to ensure the email is up-to-date and that you know your password - not EA's. As others have stated, contact EA and I'm sure they'll be able to assist you with accessing/updating your information.
I think the issue is not the user, but EA did something on its end. I never had a problem. Before and now one account works, and one does not for some reason
"I love my house. I have leaved there for 10 years. I always leave my front door open because I lost the key years ago. Today the wind blew it shut. I am now going to go down to town hall and complain that the city allowed the wind to blow and now I cannot get into my house."
Some people have had luck with just waiting a few hours and it sorts itself out. Others have hit forgot password and just re-entered their same password and everything was fine. Still others can get nowhere from the forgot password screen, then you have to contact EA to have it sorted out. It seems to be happening when people have more than one account on the same email account. Good luck everyone.

Not quite, town hall doesn't control the weather, but EA does control the login screen. I think a better analogy would be I leave my door open because I forgot the security code. The wind blew the door shut and now I will complain to the security company because they let me forget to update my security code that I've had for 4 years. And they say they can't help because I no longer remember the security questions.
As with any login, change the password regularly!!! Use an email address that you use regularly.
I had this EXACT problem. It wasn't accepting my password and couldn't change it because I no longer had access to the email account.
Asked them to ring me, answered my security question and they changed the email for me and sent a password reset to it. AMAZINGLY easy, much to my surprise.

Call them and contact them. Then change the email address to a current one
How do I call them? I cannot find a phone number for them.

Why did this make me giggle?
