Giving up your own traditions for the sake of being inclusive is more or less the definition of self destruction, but I know things work differently in Merkelreich.

How is playing a game giving up my traditions? I will still celebrate Christmas with my family like I always do. I have not changed my beliefs to pagan because I have been playing a game with a pagan event for less than 24 hours. I can appreciate that others have different beliefs than me and continue to celebrate in my own way and enjoy the event for what it is.

You're not having to give up your culture or traditions, that's just ridiculous, complete overreaction

    Agree completely.

What are you talking about. Paganism is european culture. I am european. So this event is not a "expression of other cultures".

Noone is giving up on any tradition. I wouldn't even say this event is about inclusion, but to REFLECT on "our traditions".
  • Christians continue to show their tolerance and love for all things different from them. All this outrage over a game is nuts.
  • YAWN.
  • "Only a very very small number of players post on this forum. Normally the most passionate ones. I bet EA is making the same amount of money "

Fully half of my neighbors, who all play daily, are not taking part in this event. I find it difficult to believe that that is not a fairly representative sample.

90 out of 100 of my neighbors have been playing the event. It is not even 24 hours in. It is possible that people haven't updated yet.

In addition, the event was not teased they way they usually do so people may be slower to update.

Very true, yes. They just can't get enough of being outraged by a game, and that's exactly what Jesus would do!

Yes, because this comment you made was so interesting. Also incredibly fascinating and sobering are the lovely expletive-filled screeds against this event you've started posting. We're all just so awakened by these compelling arrangements...

Stop trying to use logic and rationality. This is about religion, logic and rationality have no part in this.

I'm sorry. :flushed: I will try harder to be irrational and illogical.
  • I'm not a fundamentalist. Very far from it. And I appreciate the fact that many Christmas traditions have their roots in paganism. I realize that this is a winter event, and not necessarily a Christmas event. Personally, I have no real objections to doing a solstice oriented event, although I would much prefer that it include elements of Christmas, which is THE reason that this season is celebrated. Who celebrates the solstice these days? Wiccans maybe, who are basically a tiny group of obese fringe kooks who like to dance naked around a fire (at least the few, I know). Are there even any people nowadays who call themselves Druids?
But there is a difference between paganism and occultism. No one would likely have complained too much about a "mother tree", or "father sky". But when you prominently feature decorations like a statue of Baphomet, or an inverted pentagram (as seen on Springhenge), which are widely associated with Satanism, it just might be highly offensive to the sensibilities of people who believe deeply that Jesus died to save people from that very thing, and that Christmas is a celebration of His sacrifice. EA should have been able to anticipate how offensive this would be to a HUGE percentage of their customers.
It really doesn't matter that Baphomet or the pentagram are present in historical accounts. What does matter is what they are associated with NOW.
They could have easily done a pagan event without suggestive imagery that is a sharp slap in the face to many people.
I've seen a lot of "but Cthulu" and "Devil Ned" rationales. But first, those were Halloween events that were not really goring any oxes. Yes, Hallowe'en has its roots in the Christian tradition, but that is not how it is largely understood TODAY. Second, Cthulu is a fictional character. There is not a rational soul on earth that believes Cthulu is real. Or the Necronomicon. Those are cartoon depictions of evil with no basis is reality. And the fact that YOU, or HE, or SHE thinks that Christ and Lucifer are figments of peoples' imaginations does not negate the fact that a majority of the Western world fervently believes that they are real.
    Just my two cents.

Are you saying it's ok to say other people's beliefs are fictional but not yours?
  • Now we seem to have arrived at the point in life where we can make nasty and untrue comments about Pagans and Wiccans because they aren't of major religions. I didn't expect to see evidence on a Tapped Out forum, but there you go.

As an atheist, I do my best to understand and respect religious traditions. Paganism and Wicca are fascinating and do not deserve this kind of ridiculous treatment from nasty people. It may not be persecution, but this is how these things begin.

This is an emergency. Please visit your next safe-space because criticism, free speech and different opinions are nasty hate speech now. I repeat. Get to your safe-space immediately.
  • Neo-**** and Christian fundies are everywhere these days, it seems. They don't like it when their bubble is burst and they have to face the world outside and even share it with others who might not normally fit in their bubble; they think they own winter, but they don't. This literally is like the red cups "controversy" all over again.

Apparently, the word for a certain far-right ideology counts as profanity on here, lmao.
