Where are all these christian fundamentalists coming from?

Also, I know this is coming to come off way elitist and also pointless since many of you have probably been "lurking" for a while but---- how come this forum is full of threads with people adamantly arguing who have post counts of less than 300 posts? Where did you guys come from all of a sudden??? :p

I was active for a brief time long ago, but things were rarely this exciting! I thought I'd come back the other day because I was excited for the new event. Seething fundamentalists was an unexpected bonus.

Did you not notice that since Brexit and the U.S election, the silent angry majority has woken up and found it's voice?

What "majority" do you speak of?
  • There is a very big difference between your average Catholic or Christian and a "Christian Fundamentalist." Those who are upset at EA are not upset because they are Fundamentalists. You need to understand why EA's event offends regular Christians. I doubt most Fundamentalists would even play this game.
    This is insane.
I thought this game was related to THE SIMPSONS?
I mean, why do they even play this game?

    I just don't get it.

I've been reading these threads and I still don't get it. Can you explain in a clear fashion? Is it because of the views/dialogue from an 8-year old fictional girl? Is it because the appearance of a pentagram means that there is a "santanic" component to the game? Is it because Christmas isn't being properly recognized with a manger and endless shopping?

Also, it should be noted that it offends some "regular" Christians, not all of them. So there must be something that that subset has in common that doesn't apply to all regular Christians.

Christians and their brand of religion need to shut the **** up for once and let other people enjoy a video game

Now it seems that some of those who don't like this event are pressuring EA to get rid of it, which is just downright pathetic and way over the line. I really hope the game designers do not pander to them.

ETA: oddly they never complain like this about the mass commercialism and all the other "unchristian" aspects of modern American Christmas. Nor many other things in the game that might be disliked - that the rest of us just work around as we are used to doing, rather than demanding that the whole world caters to our whims everywhere we turn.

  • I must have missed the memo, but why did the mods dump all of these ultra-goofy, low-information, anti-pagan threads (that are nevertheless still clearly about the game) in the Off-Topic forum? If they didn’t appreciate them, they should have just locked them rather than torment those of us who live here on a routine basis.

They don't at all have the spirit of Christmas either- peace and goodwill. Almost like they don't actually care and it is all a way of feeling superior to others and avoiding their feelings of inadequacy by trying to control and silence others.... nah, of course not!

I love Christmas. It is my favourite time of the year- I love it, commercialisation and all! What I don't do is demand everyone else give me it all.

They seem to want to ruin it for the rest of us. It is sad they feel they need to do that- how do they feel threatened by a game theme? I hope the game designers don't pander to them either, but I trust the designers implicitly- they're amazing!

I know. I asked for at least one of them to be shut down because they were throwing their weight around AGAIN. Forums need heavy moderation, not next to nothing.

Nothing ironic about this non-religious sentiment...

  • Just wait till the Westboro Baptist Church hears about this!

I could go into extended theological reasons for why EA in my opinion completely went over the line and actually crossed into discrimination while taking my money; however, this forum really isn't the place for that. If I did that, lots of people would start trashing both me and Catholicism. So, you'll have to trust us that we have a legitimate complaint here.

I'd also point out that I have NO Christmas item link in store in my game. No wreath icon in the store, no gnome, and nothing else that involves Santa skins or anything, The only thing that shows up is the pentagram quest icon and the stupid pagan offering board. So whatever people are talking about regarding Santa's village etc. isn't showing up in my game, and I absolutely refuse to give an offering to a goat god to get this stuff or any other prize, period. EA s. u. c. k. s.

Feel free to message me your extended theological reasons for why EA is discriminating against you. Thanks.

  • Nice. Really nice. Do you troll people for liking A Charlie Brown Christmas too? You know they quote the Bible in that, right?

  • I doubt you will read it all, but the first and third sections are the most applicable here. This is "basic" rationale, not extended theology. Extended theology goes into much more detail. http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c1a1.htm

It's my choice to play or not play the game, but when a company takes my money and then knowingly and planfully on religious grounds delivers a product I actually cannot use and then refuses to honor a requested refund, that is a problem in my opinion.

I don't think they were trolling you. They were merely laughing at your reluctance to lay out your discrimination argument.
  • I already wrote a mini essay under the "Enjoying the pagan twist" thread that talks about discrimination a bit but also other reasons why what EA did is problematic. Those who don't know enough about religion or discrimination should educate themselves on this basic area of human rights instead of laughing in the face of those who take it more seriously and who are affected by it deeply. Believe me, EA has this responsibility too.

Nope, not gonna trust you based on faith. That's your belief system.

You're right, I'm not going to read that. But from the skimming I see the normal stuff from the bible. I notice clairvoyance...didn't you want a refund during the Future event? They foresaw the future.

In terms of a refund on religious grounds....why not try when you got the Buddhist temple or Apu or the golden calf? If it's just because your poor pagan holiday dressed in Christian clothing is parading around nakked....then that's just your level of comfort with religious tolerance. I'm pretty sure your god doesn't see gradations of sin. You either sin or you don't. You sinned long ago. You don't have a recourse here.
