That was me who challenged your views and you who challenged mine, and that got pretty out of hand (mostly my fault - we all have bad days people) but that was mostly about respect to other members rather than the actual topic at hand. I had argued that the people in the forum has gone to hell thread were just expressing an opinion and that a counter thread was devaluating their opinion. That's why I wouldn't encourage a counter thread to this thread. I think we need to respect Nettangel's regardless of whether you agree with it or not. Walter I think we generally think the same in terms of how this forum works but I also think we need to remember that this is a forum full of people each with voices and we must respect that, if we don't like simply ignore those threads (that's why I haven't even looked in the hideaway thread).
Edit: p.s. melody not trying to rehash that argument we had. That's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah I agree with you, counter threads will just cause more issues and you are very right, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. (And the argument was partly my fault, I did read back through it at a later date and realise I was quite dismissive of those who didn't share my view and I apologise.)
It is always sad to see someone leave a forum. I never got to know you but I always tried to bring humor to the forum. I hope I could make you laugh once in a while instead of sad. Perhaps if you lurk go back and read some of my more outrageous threads and have a laugh on me.(it is good medicine)

I agree, there is a time and a place, this certainly is not the place. Create your own thread to have a rant/debate.
As we cross the line of respect in open environments like that, we will always be calling the need of being governed by an authority such as moderators. We will never reach the point of governing ourselves without a 'correction facility' again such as a moderator. Some posts in this thread are perfect examples of crossing the line, and that's really not good. I wish we could communicate without being unnecessarily rude.
Well I've just read this whole thread, and all I can say is their is some very insightful and thoughtful people on here, but first...
To nettangel, I've enjoyed reading this post, and that's precisely why I come here, so, in a sort of a paradox way, I wont miss you leaving. If you're still reading this or for the sake of those who are reading, I don't mean that in the context it's put in. I don't come here for the posters/OP's, so for me, Nettangel is just another passerby but it's precisely posts like hers that I do come for, as I enjoy them, so that's why it's a paradox for me.
For those of you who are still here, I come here to simply catch up with a world outside of the one I know, on a topic I find slightly interesting. I read posts and sometimes take part in what's going on but otherwise I'm neutral. Neither for it, or against it, ( because no one here knows what neutral means right :roll: , so I must explain the obvious, do you ever find yourself doing that, explaining the obvio......I'll shut up and carry on) anyway, what was I saying, oh yes, It is what it is!.
I have to agree I don't like the 'hideaway' thread but that's because I can't follow it, I usually like the small post with a few engaged conversations but nevertheless it's a good thread once your in it,( to read, when you can follow it, and be involved in) with lots and lots of humour. As far I can see their's no clique I can think of :?: , some know others better than most but I've never seen them just stick together and do any of the.....wherever one goes the other is sure to follow.
Anyway this post is getting long and boring, I'm here for this, this what is happening now. I like all the characters that come here, because it's interesting to be around, and if I don't agree or don't like it, I can always take comfort in knowing it can't bother me at work, in the street or at home, only when I come here.

All are valid observations, and all are valid concerns. We can agree 100% on that. The question is, how do we improve it? You are not going to stop people from conversing. That's why a lot of people come here. And while some wear their post count like its a police badge, most just like talking with the community that has gathered here.
The one thing we can combat is the rudeness and harassment/name-calling. These posters should be called on the carpet, and should be summarily shunned by the message board community. By striping us of the ability to rectify the situation, Nettangel as accomplished little more than senseless martyrdom.
