Why is it preferable to have higher-level people as friends?

  • All the same to me. Level 1 or level 939. And I'm in the minority here and have never "looked" at a neighbors town. I take that back. I have checked out someone from here who happens to be very popular and his place is a dump which surprises me. You know who you are ;)

But I don't think we are neighbors!
  • I am at level 939, I prefer more seasoned players. But, most of all I like players whose towns are easy to tap. Seasoned players are more likely to have good tapping towns, as new comers are busy, racing to build a town and keep up with events, leaving less time to develop a sophisticated (not crammed together mess) town. I admit I get and drop new SF often because they are cluttered, unorganized, and difficult to tap through quickly. I have a town that is easy to tap, and I make the effort to keep it neighbor tapping friendly. So for me it's about easy tapability for my friends, whether for events or the times in between.
  • I don't think it's necessarily snobbery to choose long time players. Generally they will still be playing next year whereas quite a few enthusiastic newer players I've had abandoned their towns after a few events. There's really no way knowing beforehand whether a new neighbour will be your kind of player which is why I don't really care what level someone is. I usually pick potential new neighbours that say they like to design their towns and would visit at least during events and hope for the best. Some work out, some don't.
Of course if you visit you want there to be something to tap, but I have an odd aversion to tapping house farm houses if they're the only things left to tap. :D

I have a mix of neighbors, some newer players (i.e., low level), some more established. But that’s more by accident than design; if someone sends me a friend request, I almost reflexively accept it without worrying about who the requestor is or what kind of town he or she has. I know I’ve said this before, but in my opinion people tend to overthink the whole neighbor business.

Excellent reflection of my thoughts and style of play.

I prefer old timers almost exclusively. :) They know how to arrange their towns. If certain buildings are clickable during events they will move those buildings to the landing area, and they'll have a lot of them. They know how to arrange the landing area. they know to visit their towns during the event and clean them often. It's just the knowledge of the game you can't really get from newbies. Also, due to having been playing for a long time, their towns are large and have a lot of varied content. I play on iPad Pro and have no problems with loading towns.

  • I'm a day one level 939 player.

I had over 90 friends that I used to visit most days. I noticed only a select few came to my town.

    The majority were 939 players.

I then culled my friends list and almost all the lower level players hadn't played in weeks.

I now only have 40 friends and they are all 939 players because of the reason above.

It's a less of a chore now visiting friends.

I'm still open to new requests but I am more selective now.

I sent you a request looks like you declined? Or full up?
  • I prefer higher level friends who have things I don't have (from older events or premium things).
  • As long as there are buildings to tap, I'm not worried about the level :)
  • High level vs low level vs design heavy vs KEM farmers vs completionists vs frequent visitors vs never visits vs forum regulars vs random strangers vs actual friends vs Simpsons fanatics vs sim play style fanatics looking to achieve some aspect of the game

    They're all good.

However long they can keep this little bit of obsession running, I'll keep it going and add and drop neighbors when the time is right.

One of these days I'll get the town just perfect......until the next update
