Frustrating Events

  • I'm pretty premium when it comes to events. I'll buy any building that produces event currency if they sell it on day#1, I buy any characters or skins that give event tasks, etc... (I don't have any neighbors so no need to buy the Certified Time Traveler Card) I finished act 3 with 4 days left in the event, bought a buncha decorations and crap that gives you some Tachyons on placement.
Events are the reason I went premium in the first place, so it feels nice now to know that the $money$ I spent on the game is making a difference.
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with it, I've been there.

I have no premium characters & only generate 10 shovels every 4 hours & I'm on track, yes you do need to log in every 4 hours but like others have said once in morning, then if at home will log in again around 12, if at work will pop to the loo & login then! Then same in afternoon, pop out to log in again, it take less than a couple of minutes as just gotta collect & reassign the task & then tap to blast. If I've not got time to do the digging then I'll save them all for the evening!
The recent events have been waaay much easier to complete compared to events from a couple years back. At least I only have to log in every four hours-- which takes a few minutes each time to reset tasks. Set your alarm every four hours and take a bathroom break if you're at work. ;)

Yeah, you're right, we all have a work and a life that allows us to log in every 4 hours. I don't know why I complain. *insert eyes roll gif*

    Perhaps you should quit.

Actually, I was being completely serious. You’ve made it very clear that due to your work schedule/environment, you either can’t or won’t increase the number of times a day you log into the game and, as a consequence, cannot complete the event prize tracks. You have firmly dismissed user suggestions as ineffective. You mention at one point giving up the events, but these days breaks between the events are minimal. If you truly find the game events so frustrating, why not quit? I would if I were in your shoes. There are plenty of other enjoyable activities in life to more profitably occupy your time.

Pretty much what @echoes999 said. I generally log into the game three or maybe four times a day. Once first thing in the morning, sometimes over lunch, and once or twice in the evening. I don’t spend donuts to speed things up, and for this event (I’m embarrassed to admit) I’ve not been very dutiful when it comes to visiting neighbors. I almost always finish these events with time to spare and should be finished with this one today or tomorrow. I’m genuinely puzzled. What am I doing that’s so different?

Perhaps the difference might be if you have premium characters. In one of my towns I only have 5 people yielding 10 shovels every 4 hours. With work etc I usually get 3 to 4 logins per day. I can not get enough treasure to complete the prize track, nor will I be able to craft even 1 of each item. The events are structured easier, but it seems a necessity to have premium characters. In my main town I generate 21 shovels every 4 hrs vs the 10 in the other.

Yes, I'm convinced this is the issue. EA has moved to a model where those with all the premium characters breeze through the event. Those with none really have to grind hard. If you have a few, you will be somewhere in between. It's probably worth considering prioritizing buying characters (especially if you get a vault discount) to help with future events.

In the last events it was not enough to own the premium characters, you had to buy an additional skin to get them earn event currency.
And always the bundle of character and skin was cheaper than buying the character before the event and then buying the skin separately.
  • Overall I've been very pleased to the major changes in game play over the past year, but I'm not happy at all with the change in format to no new levels and all events for new content. Of course if you have something going on during an event and can't play much/at all during a period of it you miss out unless you fork out a lot of donuts. New level content was not time sensitive so you never had to stress. I know this sounds like a stupid complaint, but also the events just give a ton of content that is specifically themed and often not very Simpson-like. I'm struggling to keep up with designing my town and have clutter all over the place. Yet I still don't even have basic Simpson characters like Sarah Wiggum. I still play because I love the game and I'm obsessive about getting all the new content even if it's items I don't really care for, but I miss being able to go at your own pace.

Dont fret about Sara Wiggum, she hasn't been released yet.

I have the feeling that the events are specially made for people who have the time to log in 15 times a day or at least every 4 hours. Or that have the money to buy enough donuts to get all prizes. Or have several dozens of "friends".

This is very frustrating for a regular player who cannot log in as much. I keep missing out on prizes because of lack of time. The number of stuff we have to collect is way, waaay too high. I missed the first two last prizes (Moe's Cavern, Pyramid with Egyptian Willy) and will probably miss the Pirate Ship too seeing that I'm two prizes away and there's only a few days left. I play Tapped Out a lot since 2013 (it's basically the only game on my phone).

Can't EA do something about it ? I don't have the time to collect 100k or however many collectibles is needed to get the top prize. Some of us players have to work for a living.

DO something? They DID do something. They designed it this way intentionally.

Their prime objective is to COLLECT YOUR MONEY, not guarantee you get all the prizes or achieve all the goals.

Do you HAVE to spend money to play? No, you could DEVOTE MORE TIME.

If you don't have the time, take that living your working for, and spend some of that money you earn ON YOURSELF. (by giving it to EA)

And if you can't afford it, then stop playing video games and work more.

Or just don't get compulsive about collecting digital pixelated images. They're not even soft n cuddly. I gave up on obtaining everything long ago.

    Happy tapping!
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!
  • The whole point of an event (other then making money for EA) is the challenge. If they just gave you everything or made is so ridiculously easy that anyone could do it, would the game be any fun? The game has been going strong for 5+ years now so it would seem to me that the vast majority have little to no problem with thing the way they are. I work 40+ hours a week (usually in the neighborhood of 60) and am a single parent of 2 boys, and I manage to finish with no trouble, almost always pretty early.

Maybe asking for help on here would have been a better approach. You catch more flies with honey then vinager. You will find many people on here more then happy to assist you. Besides, I doubt doubt EA is going to change things because of a complaint on here.

Heres a few suggestions for you:
You can get up to 100 friends very easily. There is an entire section of this fourm devoted to it, not to mention a thread at the top of this section.
Also you could try reading the tips threads to see what else you could be doing when you do have time to log in.

I started this game on my own, my first 2 or 3 events I had little clue and No premium anything. I didn't get my fist premium char for about 6 months and that one didn't assist at all with the next event.
But I did the morning, set event tasks, set everyone else on 4-8 hr depending, even specific visuals if I got up early enough and got everyone fed and out the door. Then check in at lunch, I was lucky that there was a diner with wifi. Pop in reset event tasks, it was THOH wailing wall. When I got home repeat the event tasks set and any other event crafting tasks to create the currancy. Made dinner, cleaned kitchen, got things in order for next day, load of laundry in (or out depending -see morning routine) feed animals and the other ten billion things at end of day after I worked all day. Then my bedtime, when it got quiet I go in and play because it makes me HAPPY DAMNIT!! (Bad movie ref) set the event tasks etc.
if it looked like it was gonna be close I was not opposed to set my alarm and just reset event tasks if I really wanted the final prize.
This was all before I even knew of the forum, what I was doing, and no premium anybody! I admit I never got bonuts till after I found the forum and some clever "how" tools later.
I followed this same process with a tiny one game whose name should not be said (FG **** **** QFS) that are really not doable without real money.
I quit that one. Life is too **** short so if TSTO makes you frustrated and crazy and you feel ripped off with a freemium game then put it in the pile of games that suck for you and move on. It isn't worth it.
However, if you're just frustrated and venting, **** dude you're not the first-but it IS winnable without premium items.
But as the great @4junk3000 and @daved7637397 said, EA is here to make money, they make money and we get a cool **** awesome game to play that can, in fact, be won freemium.
Nothing as loud as the silentmiaow.

4junk is absolutely right. If I were a premium player, I'd like to know that the contributions I'm making to the development of the game - and in the process subsidising freemium players - has some return.

As it is, I'm a freemium player for the most part. What you're really asking of EA is that they design the game so that you can experience it in the same way as premium players. No?

  • Why is it some people not only want everthing for free, but want it handed to them with little to no effort at all on their part. Wow. Just wow.

I play freemium in my crawl town which is 8 months old and only maybe missed one or two prizes in the last 6? events. I know people's schedules are diffent so that may make it easier for me and harder on others.

  • Well, as I've stated before, I'm freemium and the only prize I ever missed out on was the last prize of act 1 in the very first event I encountered just two days after I started... It just too time, concentration, planning and research... now I'm doing events with just freemium characters and completing them with ease... and if something goes wrong, like the time a server error cost me around 25 doughnuts, I may have made mention on a forum thread, but didn't 'kick off', I just got on with it because at the end of the day, I'm getting this for free, so appreciate the fact i have to put in a little more effort than those who (God bless them) like to spend real money on it to get to the end..

I used to have a freemium town, I mean I still do but I used to too.
Issues involving long hour work shifts and other problems forced me to give up my "B Town". However I'm sure that if I still used it I would be able to obtain all prizes (barely, or through ingenuity).

I'm going to say something a bit odd, usually in most events buying as many premium characters as possible will help, this event however does the opposite.
I currently have 1 extra rocker not usable in any venue, because they're all full. Heck I haven't even finished this act, once I finish it I'll have two extra venue players, players that bought all premium characters and Otto's skin will have three.

So this event has been a tad more balanced than those in the past, it does provide some help to those who purchased premium characters, however purchasing all of them becomes counter productive. We must wait until the next act, chances are this number of excess venue players will only grow.

As for forum help, in the Time Travel event players came together and offered a clear and effective strategy within 24 Hrs! ..... Upon which Ea took it upon themselves to bump up the goals... Thanks EA. (Sarcasm)

However that did not deter the forum, we kept on looking for ways to help.

We told people to craft items to increase Pannini Press levels.....
    People did not listen.

We told people of a way to find the gem in 10 moves or less....
    People did not listen.

We told people the logic and reason upon which finding the gem quickly, the benefits as well as higher rewards gained....
Once again people did not listen.

Guides exist on and off the forums. General consensus is often that even if your freemium, chances are that you can obtain all prizes checking maybe 3-4 times a day. Sometimes you get lucky, if you invest wisely (like choosing the two rockers over Bleeding Gums Murphy) you'll often be able to reduce the number of visits by increasing gains instead. Many ways exist, the forum does it's best way to present them orderly and as easily as possible, we sometimes have discussions or debates, as often more than one way to accomplish that goal exists. However it is then up to the player to decide which manner of method they shall take.

It's a numbers game which can be reduced to simple subjective numbers, calculations and various manner of equations. We're simply here to help, or post silly Gifs.

Edit: Just realized this is an old thread.

I haven't had as much time to play this event. Log in in the morning, after work and a couple times during the evening. I don't have any Premium characters for this event and somehow managed to squeak by with a day to spare last prize round. But, even if you can get close, the donut buy can get really low if you really want that last prize. I kind of really love the craftables more than the prizes, anyway.
