Springfield Re-re-build

There are some parts of my Springfield that I really like and am proud of how they're put together - whether due to the visual quality, the comedic value, the relative accuracy to the show, or whatever - but there are other parts where were quite blatantly shoved in due to lack of space and/or time at the point of getting it (usually events) so I'm now seriously thinking about a rebuild...what's stopping me is the abject horror at how long it's going to take; especially the decorations.

So my question is this - who out there took the time, late in the game, to do a complete rebuild of their city; how long did it take, and were you happy with having done so as a result - whether due to an improvement of the visual appeal or maybe making it more efficient (e.g. grouping all the buildings involved in 4-hr tasks together)?

Alternatively have people done large-scale, but partial, rebuilds only, and how difficult did you find it to fit around existing parts?

can you just store what you don't like and then use the select tool to move the parts you like somewhere else then rebuild what you stored around it? THOH 2017 is just around the corner and I don't think you're going to want to do a nuke and rebuild right now. Just saying.

  • Yeah, hence the last paragraph of how hard people found doing partial renovations - I feel like I'd quickly get stuck up against the existing parts of the city, just needing a few squares of space, pushing that out, and then everything follows...
  • As someone who will be rebuilding soon my advice is

    - Wait till THOH
That way if any new land comes in you can implement it, instead of doing it now and then having a vacant row of land you can't really do much with. Also means that you can see/implement any new items that are in this event

    - Screenshot current parts of your town that you are happy with so you can replicate it after the nuke. at the moment that max zoom glitch will definitely help

    - Write down parts of your town that you are somewhat happy with but have items sitting elsewhere/storage that you want to incorporate

    - For parts you aren't happy with (or are unsure how to build) then check places like the Showcase section or other sites for ideas. save those links

    Hope that helps
  • Thanks for that - I certainly have nowhere near enough time for this at the moment so a wait would be happening regardless. Good tips about screenshots etc.
  • I am rebuilding right now, following the SF guide. And it is hard! I followed the guide before, but so much land has opened up, I've been needing to shift everything for awhile. I've been working on it for about a week. My goal is to complete before the Halloween event. I figure I got one more week.
  • Unless you want to redo more than 50% of your town, I'd store the sections you want to redo and leave everything you're happy with. Even then, I'd still consider redoing a section at a time. If you're groaning about/having trouble making yourself store large sections, then DO NOT NUKE!

I've nuked SF twice and KL once (both before we could move a large section at a time) and it took freaking forever to redo it. Can you nuke Krustyland and see how you feel about that? My KL is completely finished till we get new content because I nuked and redesigned. My SF will never be nuked again because I have too much I'm happy with. When a section is beyond hope and I need to completely redo it, I store stuff or move it to an empty area and put it back better.

If you nuke, take screen shots first! When I've done nuked, it's on a Friday night so that I have the weekend to get stuff sorted out. I did roads first, followed by all characters not associated with a building or object (so I could start earning some currency), then what I wanted in the center of town -a park for Springfield. I know what I wanted in all four corners, so that was next. And then I started building out from there. Think buildings first and then decorate after.

I also have a decent sized area that I leave empty so current even items have a landing spot. When the event is over, I incorporate the new stuff into my town or I store it. This helps prevent me from cramming stuff. And now I'm feeling inspired to work on my town. I have a few areas that need some attention.

    Good luck!
  • One more thing - I also recommend nuking after an event when you think there will be a break before the next one. It's a pain if an event hits and you have a place a bunch of random stuff to participate. The point is to get it looking nice, not make a different mess.
  • I'm new, so forgive the question, but what is THOH?

Treehouse of Horrors - the annual Halloween event which tends to be one of, if not the best event of the year

Thanks for the quick reply. Do these events require donuts? I only have 4 at the moment.

No events REQUIRE donuts - and they are usually quite finish-able without any premium characters, so long as you're able to get back on regularly to refresh jobs because they typically require heavy grinding.

All the events are much the same - vague storyline, main cast characters get costumes (either unlocked or purchased) a bunch of new buildings/decorations and multiple currencies as the event goes on.

Treehouse of Horrors just tends to be that much better than the others.

Sounds fun! I'll read up on that one.
  • Rebuild by section. I have several completely empty areas just for moving things into temporarily.
    DO NOT NUKE!
I've seen too many good neighbors who nuked, started to rebuild, then just up and quit playing. Redesign section by section. Try NOT to store anything, especially decorations. Buildings are fairly easy to find in inventory, decos not so much. Be careful which buildings you store, characters have been known to disappear.
  • I'm not completely rebuilding (most sections are staying intact), but I'm doing a massive restructuring, and there are sections of my town that haven't been touched since 2014 that are in completely new areas. It's quite a testament to the appeal of the game, in my opinion.
  • Yeah I've got a few key sections that definitely need improving - might look at doing some of them before THOH...
