There is a defensive bonus you get for placing barriers in the game. I am not sure exactly what they do but it is required to increase your bonus as part of the quest line.
Just to clarify, the bonus % you receive by placing the item is an increase in the percentage of event currency you earn. It does NOT give you a bonus % for your multiplier.
Some crafting items give a bonus Event Currency % as well (eg. first 3 trenches give 0.5% each).
Personally I think it's on-par with the usual Event Licence in terms of usefulness, if currency is what you're after. (i.e. not worth wasting donuts on.)
But if you like it as an actual decorative piece, then that's why you should buy the item.
Just clarifying what happens with the decorations either in store for 10 each as shown but also available in the craft menu. You can ONLY go for a maximum of 20% so my advice is to NOT spend donuts on the bonus items but craft them instead. The bonus items do not add to your town percentage either.
I repeat don't waste donuts (like me) ... wait and craft the bonus items to build up to 20% extra duff. Unless of course you have 100s of bonuts to waste.
I hope this was helpful

This info is probably up here somewhere, but did you know that you get the full defensive % even if an object is half in/ half out of the cyan colored boundary?
I experimented to make a snakey shaped trench with some corner pieces. Then realized the cyan border is only 3 grids wide, but you can get away with placement as long as part of it is in bounds. Tried with a fence & dragon teeth. Both yielded full bonus % with only partial placement.

They are cheap enough I might get some to put around the coastal artillery from an earlier event.

I did so. Doesn't look that good, but I am yet to put them on the beach. Need some hedgehogs and barbed wire too.
Thanks for helpful hint on bonus upper limit, Brooders.

I think there are different structures to defend in act 2 and 3...
Oooh Yes!
Do you think we might get more options for crafting defences too?
Great
