They sent me a message telling me they need to identify me. I have to call or chat. Jesus Christ, I told them that I can't call OR chat. They said the chat is available on the link below, then link takes me to the page called "HOW TO GET HELP WITH FRAUD ON YOUR EA ACCOUNT". Fraud? I have never even mentioned that.
Noooooo
This is exactly how my last time went with them. Then they wanted me to document all that was broken or missing.
I just had the glitch happen. Was ok at 5pm est then at 8pm est it started to bring up all the old events. Now the task icon does not work, collecting circle is tiny and no more rail yard tasks for this week. Called EA and got a phone call back in less than 10 minutes, person said they are working on it, gave a few troubleshooting tips but did not work.
Looking at all the other post and some say rollback others say dont, torn as to what I should do. EA rep did say "other than it being harder to play now, it will not hurt to keep playing till we fix it", leaning towards that.
Anybody have any thoughts?
UPDATE - Asked for a rollback and it worked. So far 10 hours latter all is stil ok. Only ended up about 1/2 a day behind on the event.
UPDATE PART 2 - After about 3 weeks of the roll back working fine, this am I have the glitch back again. Emailed EA support but since it's a weekend I have a 72 hour wait for a response. Hopefully theyyl get back to me sooner. Only bright side is that I know it worked fine when I went to sleep, so If i can have it rolled back 8 hours i would not lose any progress. Cross your fingers.
So I heard from EA and they said
"we have just been informed that we can not roll back the account from now as the technical team is very soon releasing a patch for this particular issue by which all the progress and the in game bugs would go off and you would find the same account that you deserve automatically. Therefore I would request you to please wait and be patient as this would happen very soon."
So basically deal with it till (we don't know when) the patch will be released.
IF this is true then why haven't they informed their entire customer service team about it?
I really do hope thEAy are fixing it with a patch and the sooner the better as act 3 starts tomorrow. But I don't trust this statement we've seen it before...
They better fix it soon. I went back to them and said how long of a wait will it be for the patch and guess what I got a roll back. NOW for the catch, I only wanted them to roll it back to April 20th, they instead rooted it back to the START of act 1, so all my progress from act 1 & 2 was gone. Three emails later, now some technical game team is working on getting me at least back to the 20th. Meanwhile, for them to do this I need to be completely signed out of my game, It's driving me crazy that I can't play at all.
EA best customer service department in the world NOT.

Telling (aka lying) to their customers is a common stalling tactic used by customer service, along with telling people that posting here will solve their problems, get them in touch with the "developers" etc. Occasionally they do help (service) a customer (customer)
See EA, Its right there in the name. Customer service. Not customer get rid of them.

I suspect that this post will be deemed unduly alarmist and pessimistic by many, but as the months continue to go by without resolution, I find myself increasingly wondering whether EA will ever fix this bug. More specifically, I find myself thinking that perhaps EA has simply given up on the idea of implementing a true solution (perhaps because they don’t sufficiently understand the nature of the glitch, or because they’ve determined that the problem is too difficult or expensive to solve, or for some other reason). There is a very rough analog to this situation having to do, not with the game per se, but with the maintenance of this forum. The forum’s search function has been broken since 2016. Word has repeatedly filtered back to us through semi-official channels that EA is “working on the problem” (sound familiar?), but it has become clear to most of us by now that the forum’s search function will remain in an unfixed state forevermore. Could something similar be going on with the rollback glitch? Are EA help staffers simply paying lip service to the idea of a patch/fix that always seems to be just around the corner?

@KrustyBrand Very well said. I am also more concerned that the bug is beyond a simple fix and they do not feel given the age of the game that it is worth the investment. It is eroding the user base, which also is an issue.
I also wonder if, given their broken communications lines, there is any real upper level knowledge of the extent of the issue. I sincerely doubt the mysterious "studio team" actually listens to front line, and obviously many front line support people are entirely clueless about what the customers tell them, so they never pass credible information upstairs.
Myself I rushed everything in act 2 and stopped playing, and I have rushed everything in Act 3 and now do not intend to log in at all for a few days to ensure that there is a good daily backup for them to restore to. The net result is no fun playing the game. I would be more than happy if they announced there would be no new content until they resolve the bug, and then do it.
The longer this goes on, the more people leave. The game will make less money, and be less likely to get resources put into it.
There must be some people in EA Corporate that have some business sense, they are still around. For it not to occur to anyone to actually let the user base know how they are dealing with this indicates to me that you are correct.

To my knowledge, EA has never communicated anything to us, at all, ever. I did take about a year off in 2014-15 so I may have missed something, but I doubt it. Total silence has been their MO for as long as I can rememberb and not just with this game. I go back to Madden football in the early 1990's, and they were terrible with customer service then, as they have always been. At least when it comes to that (customer service) they cant get any worse. Because thats where they have always ranked, the bottom!

Summary of what I know about the glitch
It is caused by invalid variables.
The MySQL database is probrably not set to strict mode so invalid variables are converted to zero. (If it were strict every update would be rejected and you would make even more complaints).
The corrupted variables are random indicating human intervention. The same variables being corrupted indicates a programming error.
I am not sure when the database is updated, but the indication is that it is not the player doing the update, otherwise everyone would have the glitch.
If external, then a hack program may be the culprit. An internal programming error is possible but a one off like this should have been found by EA developers.
If internal programming error, it may be even more random as the variables may be corrupted between the read for update and the actual update. This implies that there is a constant relationship between records in the database. You may never get the glitch if your relationship is with an inactive account.
@datasurgeon .... here is a question for you......
I see this issue as two parts.....the Root Cause and fixing glitched games.
ROOT CAUSE
Long term final solution. This is the obvious best thing to determine the underlying factors and correct them from corrupting the variables. Of course this is has been an issue for 1 year and 5 months but with small growing groups of players being affected each new event update until the last few events which had a MASSIVE explosion of players that hopefully has woken EA up to actually address this. But not holding my breath
SHORT TERM SOLUTION
Currently the only short term solution is to roll back the game to the last known working backup file, which results in loss of progress on the player's part.
In addition to finding and fixing the root cause, I think that EA should also be working an patch fix that can be run by EA tech support whenever a customer calls in when hit with this glitch. This would be a process that would automatically look that items that are known to be effected by the glitch (i.e. character button, IRS radius, FP points, Monty's Mountain, mini games, etc.....) and see if either
Variables are not valid for current update of the game
Or are within known bad variable parameters
Then automatically restore the current correct variables. The last VERY GOOD AND KNOWLEDGEABLE EA rep I talked to this morning proved this is possible as he is able to look at a game backup file and immediately see if FP is set to 1, IRS is level 1, etc.... and knows that file is corrupted with the glitch.
This process could even scan the last backup files for that players game and validate that FP / IRS tapping radius / etc.. are above 1 variable, then if the current game is 1, it auto resets to last backup file without 1 variable to that file's variable levels.
I know this does not fix the root cause but gives EA customer quick and fast process to run against a player's glitched game so they can play again with out loosing progress. I know they will be hit again, cuz it does not fix root cause, but at least when hit again, player would know they can call EA and it can be fixed without loosing progress. IN fact players could even continue to play broken games and keep that progress whenever EA finally runs this auto process to fix it.

I agree, EA can write a simple program that can restore the variables to their correct value. THAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED A LONG LONG TIME AGO.
Root cause may take a while since EA have ignored the possibility of another player's program initiating the glitch.
After daily dealing with support, after the initial support attempt where they only escalated the day the Glitch happened to me, and supposedly each time a roll back was going to be performed. To find hours later all the way up to the next call to support that they didn't perform the roll back they said they were performing each time.
The end result was a loss of a week of event progress with no rollback because they wont compesate loss from a rollback. And support was closed the last day of act 2. So I was forced to proceed with the event or forever not have the content. I spent over 100 donuts to rush the prize track that I would have otherwise finished without doing that had they actually done the rollback any one of the days prior as they say their and lied to me over the phone that they were.
And so now I am in a boat where if they rollback now I lose what I didn't want to lose and why I kept asking for the rollback so that i wouldn't and should not be on this situation as described. But since i am, now what do i do? Keep pestering them day after day to find a rep that knows the other fix that doesn't need the rollback? While I keep progressing the event only since the rest of the Glitch effects to much quality of life parts of the game to continue any game activity outside of the event.

Very well said @Krusty an Dave 7637379. It has now been 2 days since EA has last responded to my issue and not one response to my 5 email to them. Also put in another help desk ticket asking for a call but again nothing.
I have just about given up, but I am to thick head and stubborn to do that without some response from EA. Sadly after many years of playing and enjoying Tapped Out, I have a feeling the end for me is near.
I have been waiting for a response for 5 days. Nothing, total silence. They told me not to write. Maybe I wouldn't anyway. I am past the point where I absolutely gave up. I am just not willing to do this. It has been going on for almost 2 weeks. I'm gonna travel abroad in a couple of days, and I'm not gonna deal with this there. @Raven_Darkstorm I am also at a point where I kinda don't want a fix. Even with a broken game I gained 4 characters and 6 buildings since the glitch, not to mention the stuff I crafted. I am gonna lose too much and I don't plan on playing too much. Not after this! I give 24-hour jobs to all the characters and just forget about the game until the next time.
Playing with a broken game is certainly an option. In fact I went that route for 4 months when they first refused a roll back for a month and then when they agreed to a roll back they refuse to restore items they encouraged me to continue to purchased (during the time they refused the roll back). Then against all odds ONE person at EA actually fixed my game for real (not the root cause but made it playable again without loosing progress).
I was hit with it again a month later but now I could force them to do a roll back and only loose a day.
Sooooo.....long story short, I have plenty of months of experience playing with a broken game so here is a post I posted on how to play with your broken game that will hopefully help you.................

Good for you. It is way past time for something to go your way!

It is not really better. There is a small reprive because the variable for the crafting level was reset to allow access to level 3 (as predicted
