I did the grind for a long time, both because of the donuts and because I wanted the tracks. Eventually I stopped because I had plenty of track and 5 donuts wasn't worth the grind. Earlier this year I actually ran out of tracks so for a couple of weeks in one of the lulls between events I grinded out a bunch more track. Now I have 80 straight pieces in inventory (and about 400-500 of the other pieces).
Two months later....no relapses, no DT shakes, no withdrawals.......
...... no idea why I didn’t do this earlier. I feel so free.

Spoiler alert. This is how it feels to give this game up. The first time I quit I thought I would be feeling withdrawals. When I came back 3 years later I realized I had control. The desire to have everything was gone, the need to grind was gone, however my enjoyment with the game returned.
I now play when I want, reconstruct my town on my time, and if I fail to earn every item during an event I don’t fret. I figure it gives me something to look forward to in rereleases.
I still recycle at the moment only because my KEMMING doesn't produce as much as I'd ideally like. I'm at around 640% on the multiplier. Once I hit 1000% I'll probably stash my recycling stuff but the Monorail stays. it's one of my proudest achievements in my town!
I don't know if you guys have Little Lisa's Recycling Center but if you just tap it once in the morning and once at night you will get all the tracks and the 5 donuts within the week's time.

Not quite that easy. It pays 450 a tap, so you need to tap it 56 times to get the Bonuts. I tap it probably 4 times a day and get the Bonuts about every 2 weeks.

I'm still running my recycling centers every day.

If they release further monorail stations I might extend my track so go back to recycling but if not I can’t see me do it any more
