Yearbook mb has become permanent?

Replies

  • So have we made certain this mystery box is permanent yet? We only have a few days left and I'd rather not burn through thousands of donuts at once. I'd prefer to clear out the box gradually.

I am guessing “no”. I didn’t start with 700 items in my first game, only about 15 or so that were mostly NPCs I hadn’t bought from other events. So I bought them now and now when I click on the box it just takes me back into the game with nothing to buy.

If it were a permanent feature wouldn’t more stuff be added in? Or a message that new items will be available after this event is over?

    So I am guessing no.

Not necessarily. Normally, when a limited time box is emptied out it disappears.

Too good of a deal to pass up if you have the donuts. You can always make more donuts, but you can rarely get these items for 30 donuts.

I have more to buy than to spend though. It'd be nice to know how much more time we actually have.

lol There is nothing in there I want anyway. It can stay in the game as long as it wants, I will just ignore it forever.

Don't increase the Item Limit? Then I don't play. Period.

If it is, is that a good and bad thing? It will allow people to get literally everything but then what's left? Are EA killing the game off?

If I had a nickel for every "is the game ending?" post I've seen in the last 6 years, I'd never need to donut farm - I'd have so many nickels that I could buy millions of donuts!

I'd love to know when the first "game ending!" posts appeared. Probably 2013! :D

What is making anyone think that it's not ending with the event? My timer says there's two days left for the event, and the box is under the category title of the event. I don't recall any box in the past, remaining after its event ended.

This is why i have been max grinding money and KeM crops this whole event. This is the best sale ever and may not return.

SAME! I'm honestly about to buy a small box of donuts because I can't grind fast enough to get some of the items I want. Even all the extra random stuff I've been getting has pushed my % from 840 to 916!! So I don't mind as much. GRIND GRIND GRIND!

I think it was because the word "new" suddenly -- mid-event -- replaced a tag that originally had the end date on it. (I mean the tag specifically attached to the yearbook itself. The outer "event" tag did not change, though, as shown in your picture.) Also, LPNintendo now finds no end date in the code related to the yearbook itself. I don't know if there was ever such language there in the first place. At least, that's what I think it said someplace. I could be wrong. But that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

    Does that make any sense?

  • I can think of a rationale for EA to keep the album/box/whatever permanently. In the old days, a new player could come along, see some "old timers'" towns, and think to themselves "Gosh. If I work hard at this game, maybe I can have a town with those things in it." There were a FEW items (only a few 'event's had taken place and the towns were not immersed in special-event items.) The VAST majority of items in other towns were level-related and it was merely a case of willingness to put in time and effort to get what the bulk of neighbor towns had. And a bit of premium items. (My main wish was for the bowling alley. It was right there in my store. It was only a matter of time.)

99% of the items in towns were available to all.

But now that the game is virtually overrun with event items, mostly time-limited, when a new player looks at a "typical" town, they find that the vast majority of what they see will not be in their town. Ever. The game is now event-driven. They will see awesome areas covering a town, NONE of which will be possible for them.

99% of what they see in well-established towns will NEVER be available to all.

That might not be a goal that many share, but frankly I'd be turned off by a game that offered completely different content than I was going to see.

The album gives them a "chance" of getting some stuff they especially like.

And EA is making a friggin FORTUNE from players who think they are only paying "30 donuts" when in reality they are paying a lot more because odds are good that they won't get that item on their first try. Or second try, for that matter.

It's brilliant, in my opinion. :)

I think the sale is brilliant and keeping it continuous shouldn't be a problem. The idea of exclusivity driving the demand of a premium price, is a marketing ploy that only works on people who can afford premium prices. And that is not a big demographic. Not nearly as big as the one that shops for the other marketing ploy, of offering items at a PERCEIVED discount. (Perceived because these items don't have a cost. They have an initial expense and that's it. It costs nothing to distribute more whales, so they can be sold at 30 instead of 300 and it's not under cost. It's still a profit.

And limited sales does motivate some to "buy now before it's too late". But that urgency is unnecessary. Because as long as these items are only 30 donuts, I'm going to purse almost every one of them until i have them all. They now seem "within my reach" instead of "unobtanium".

I am loving the box. I haven't grinded so hard in a long time. And to actually feel generously rewarded for that grind? Now THAT'S a bonus great feeling. I think keeping the sale going just leaves that carrot dangling in our faces until we grind KeM crops or just reach for our wallet. Affordability is an excellent marketing tool in my mind. It just requires an ability to let people have what they want. And that's not SOP in 21st c bizness

I agree with your whole post. But holy moses have i been lucky with the box, considering the prizes supposedly aren't weighted. It does say even 20% odds for all of the 5 things in each refresh. That's really generous of them, when we know they weight other odds.

I have been refreshing until i get a box with 4-5 things i like, which i can do because i own so few premium items. At least 8-10 times now, i have got the one item i wanted most, first. This has made it very fun. I'm mostly going for buildings i crave in my town. But I'm enjoying building my bonus too. I should compile a list of all my winnings. It would be cool to calculate how many donuts i actually spent on this sale.

Plus, i think that the vast majority of purchasers are of the "reach for their wallets" category. This game has been downloaded over 10 million times. Imagine that only ten percent of those are still active players.
In THAT remaining group, in my opinion, there is only a small microcosm of players who have ever, ever heard of rattrap trucks or bloodmobiles or KEM farming. (Or ANY thought of "farming" for that matter.) Those tactics are learned, for the most part, from forums like this one. I don't know how many people read this forum, but I'm pretty sure it ain't a million. Most TSTO players probably just plod along happily through the levels, decorating their town as they go. And suddenly having access to truckloads of new stuff must blow their minds. And send them reaching for their wallets. :)

I think the secret tricks like farming might get spread on boards like reddit. I don't ever go there but i hear it's popular

  • The yearbook is also listed under the main menu. Go to buy - extend the menu out - go to premium- its at the very end. No timer under it.
  • The mini event section is gone but the MB remains. Now lets see if it survives the next update.
