The new Premium is er.......... Actual money.

Prev1
Isn't it about time now that we stopped kidding ourselves that Donuts are the premium currency over igc anymore?

Now that even the mini-events come with a "Free with a purchase of Donuts" character I think it's clear that the new Premium currency is the money in your bank account.

Donuts are more of a crafting currency now, as most of us have KEM farmed or Bloodmobile/Rat Trap Trucked to earn as many as we need, if we're kind we could call it a sub-premium currency maybe?

As for the lowly igc, well this latest event doesn't contain a single item available for purchase with igc.
It's used for buying the basic items when you're starting up a new game but then it's redundant other than for buying items to craft donuts, hence why so many of us are sitting at the cap.

I'm not so much complaining, I totally get the market forces at work in order to make it worthwhile for EA to keep the game going. I just felt like it had hit a tipping point and needed to be acknowledged.

Look forward to all your thoughts.

I think it's understood by most who've played the game for some time, that without directly asking for money at this point, the game would have ended. So, it is perfectly acceptable and fine with me.
Make Nightmare Pile like Zombie Sandwich. All kids trick or treat at once.

As I've already stated: I think you should have to buy at least $2 worth of donuts every year or they cap your daily donut production.
  • To be honest EA was always going to look for an alternative income method once doughnuts became fairly easy to obtain, personally I don't mind dropping 10 quid every few months on a game that has given me many years of entertainment, actually now that I think about it I actually spend far less these days to get premium items than I did in the early days of the game.

Great post. Sadly I don't think we will get much discussion on this as the forum is now mostly taken up with 'when is golden goose coming back...' threads. I enjoyed filling up my character collections with completed ticks. Now that I'm donut rich and thanks to the year book, black Friday and event mystery boxes I had probably 95% of all characters. Alas, I'm now starting to see more and more gaps appearing as each event now seems to have at least one actual cash purchase to complete the set. That's commerce for you! I still enjoy the game and will continue to play it. Very occasionally I will make a cash purchase if my wallet is bulging that month and I like the deal. However like lockdowns, social distancing et al this is our new normal and we will just no doubt get on with it and have nostalgic grumbles starting with the words 'do you remember when...'

The day this becomes a "pay to play" game is the day many of us stop playing
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!

Pay attention. I didn't say 'pay to play'. I said 'pay to continue to be able to farm insane numbers of donuts'.
And seriously: $2 a YEAR? OMG go look at the price of games in the stores. Then they're gone in a year or so?

If they want us to pay real money, they need to offer things most won't be able to say no to. Patty, Selma and Marge matching witch coven outfits. With tasks and assorted matching decorations. They keep offering these obscure characters, I personally could care less about owning. Offer an upgrade to the NIghtmare pile allowing all children to go trick or treating at once. Adding some new costumes for newly added children. I would pay real money for that. Add some cars that drive on roads. I'd pay for that.

Or more characters for the Zombie Sandwich.
I have more donuts than I'll ever spend now, but the bonus characters have been meh. The only thing I paid for was a token to get the Donut Factory, but only because I was guaranteed to get it -- I emptied the yearbook a long time ago.
  • Picking up minor characters or skins for $15AUD is too rich for me. My guess is they’d attract more revenue by setting it lower, ie I’d throw $3AUD at a cash item every event - but if the model works and keeps the game going I have no problem with it.
  • I’d have no problem spending $5 on character every big event.
At least now it’s only 10, where before it was 20. But 10 for a character I don’t remember is still too much.

    Pay attention?? :o

I AM paying attention. But that's all I'm paying. My comment stands as is. I've always played for free and the day i cannot play for free is the day i stop playing. I don't buy games.

Do you go to or buy Movies? Have cable or Hulu etc? Go out to eat at a nice restaurant? Have a hobby that you have to buy stuff for? Go to starbucks? Spend money on fine wine? All those are just experiences too. Why can you spend money on those and not also a game you have obviously enjoyed playing for years? Because it's a "Game" and not only that but a "mobile game" ? If you enjoyed the game at all in the time you have played and have not at least spent a few bucks, then you are the problem. When this game does close, you have no right to complain about it.
  • @wadebear I'd hate that pay model. I'm sure lots of players would quit. Also, some of your replies are cheeky
The opt-in if you want or, continue as you are (advert free I remind you) model is a winner.

    🤣

Whoa, whoa, whoa – I only accept cash, bitcoin, or GameStop stock.
  • Ohhhhh, I get it! You want the designers / programmers to work all week, to give you .... FREE content?? Great business model! You farm donuts, to buy premium stuff, but would "quit" if they made you pay? Great set of gamers we got here!

Honestly, the majority of "FANS" of the game here make me laugh, get in the real world, if it wasn't for us players that don't mind 'paying' (dirty word, I'm sure) for stuff, this game would've ended months or even years ago. Where do you think the money comes from for this game? Your d0nUt fArMiNg??
  • People who contribute cash towards the game are free to do so, as are people who maintain a freemium-only approach.

Shaming others for their choices and how they should be spending their own money is lame.

No, it isn't. This is a business, like it or not. It HAS to make money to survive, FACT. I'd argue, If you still play the game after all these years, you absolutely SHOULD contribute in some way, or else never, EVER moan about lack of content. Same kinda thing is, It's like the people who complain that the Shops/Malls etc are all closing down, yet they buy everything online, what do you expect to happen??

I don't think i moan about lack of content, and the day the game ends I'll miss it and say it was a good run while it lasted.
No i don't spend money on cable, Hulu or wine or that other stuff. I can't afford it. This sim I'm using is a gift from a friend with a spare family plan spot. It's my only connectivity. I'm glad i can play this game for free, and the day it's not free to play I'll just stick with my free Sudoku game. Some people do make things simply to share with others. I appreciate their contributions to society.

Im alone and i don't have much. I'm trying to fix an old car to sell right now so i can get a root canal. I haven't had any income besides the stimulus in over a year. Sure, EAs business is to try to tempt my money out of my pocket. My business is to keep it in there and get by as best i can with what i have. No hard feelings, it is what it is. But I'm used to people having a "screw the poor" attitude. It's very much in style lately.

i hope things will improve someday. I'd like to have enough money to spend it on fun things again. Someday... But it looks like that won't be anytime soon.

I appreciate the OP welcoming all thoughts, and i don't mind expressing my situation, especially when people try to suggest my opinion isn't relevant, because i don't have spare money to spend on games. If people think less of me because of it, whatever.

Perfect, If you don't pay in, don't moan.

Nobody said that, I don't think?

Well, it isn't. I know that sounds 'cold', but, unfortunately, you can't expect it to count if you don't pay anything into it.

Edit: It amazes me, the majority of people who moan, would spend $2 on a bar of chocolate that would last them barely 10minutes, without even thinking about it. Yet, spending the same on a game they play for hours each week???..... WhAaAaTtTt???!!!!
