New log on problem-Verification codes

    More possible help:
    Go to https://www.origin.com/en-us/store . On the bottom left tap/click your name, then select "EA Account and Billing".

    Add your phone number to your account.
    Select the SECURITY tab.
    Click the button to Turn On Login Verification for your account.
  • Here is what i did.
    Logged into origin, with my old email,
    changed my email to the new one.
  • Origin sends you to EA. EA want to send a verification code before you can edit your email !!
    The only way that works is if you've set up a secondary ( recovery ) email and that still works.
    I've never added a phone number, but they might have an option to verify you by text.
    If you can't get a code you can't change your email to get a code - fun, ain't it !?!

    Here is what i did.

    Didn’t work like that for my wife. When she logs into origin and attempts to change her email or add a secondary one, a verification code is needed to do anything. As for me, I’m in an endless loop where I enter my verification code and am told a confirmation email will be sent, which never is (and it’s not in my spam folder). EA is trash; plain and simple.

    Not trash, but ill prepared to implement such a change. The big boys give months of notice when they are going to change something. (I. E. Microsoft and explorer) Giving no advanced warning is a real low class move. Could you imagine if Google Just up and changed their authentication requirements without notice? They would lose so much money. Oh and customers too.

    What a mess!

    I have a feeling this whole verification fiasco was probably accidental (because they didn’t give people notice that they were going to do it) - perhaps a system glitch turned it on for people.

    One possible solution for EA to consider - turning off the Log-in verification for all accounts, then sending an in-game pop up to let people know how to turn it back on if they want to. I doubt they will do that tho - too many issues surrounding security :/

    Perhaps when contacting EA Support, you can ask them to turn off the log-in verification for you. But they will likely ask you all of the stuff mentioned in the above posts :/

    Tried to turn that on thinking my problems were solved. I must've tried to get a code sent to my email like 20 times, never gets sent. And it's not a dead email cause I'm logged into it and looking at my inbox like a herb as we speak.

    So to sum up, no verification code from the game, no code from EA's site. Not after clearing the cache, not after reinstalling, not after turning my device off, nothing. I don't mind chilling on the game while they do their thing, I just wanna know my town didn't get Myspace'd to the shadow realm.
  • @Mount_Grey - if the box asking to send codes has a redacted version of your email it won't work unless you type the email in. If it's a tap to choose an email option with a little highlighted circle it should send ok though, even if there's only one email address to pick from.
    If it's any consolation I found that out trying to edit my email as a test, and not getting codes. If there's anyone out there with an actual g****r@ . . . email they'll be wondering what was going on !!

  • @1-Graham-S Oh ok. Yep, mine's redacted. Where do I type in my email? It doesn't seem to be giving me the option.

    Well @suetopia and @1-Graham-S I turned off the two factor authentication on my c town. Got the email from EA confirming it was off. Logged out,tried to log back in and it still wants a code. Ten minutes of faffing and I'm still not back in. Expect to hear from my solicitors.

    If you are able to get the codes via email, and you don’t want to continue having to go through the trouble of having 2-factor verification, you can turn it off by accessing your EA account here:

    https://www.ea.com/forums

    You can get to your account by pressing on the little person icon at the top of the screen next to the question mark, and logging in with your password (and verification code).

    Then, you can click on your icon/avi (again, next to the question mark at the top of the page), and select Account Settings.

    From there, you select Security, then under Log-in Verification select “turn off” (it will involve another code being sent to confirm).

    You should be verification code free after that.

    Unfortunately, I think this only turns it on/off for logging into your EA account (for things like this forum), not for individual games. Sad thing is, this proves that they have a way to fix this mess, they just haven't implemented it.

  • Still waiting for EA to roll out the fix for this. They will need to extend the event for a couple more weeks/months/years at this rate.

    TIP - Once you’ve entered the verification code, remember to click the ‘paste’ tab before the ‘verify’ tab and it should log you back in.

    If you only click the ‘verify’ tab, it will return the ‘code not recognised’ message.

    I don't think it was accidental though.
    I think this has purposely been turned on to try to stem the tide of illicit doughnuts.

    @1MikeyM - Wiki noted the framework for this code malarkey was added but not activated when they did the Springfield Choppers update, so it does look like it was ( badly ) planned.
    A five digit number is a lot less secure than a carefully chosen password and it's easy for a cheating player to forward an email or to text or post their code on a hacker forum . . .

    Without going in to the ins and outs of it all @1-Graham-S no. That's not how stuff is being done in the less reputable parts of town.
