This song titled as Goodbye Policeman is used in Infernal Affairs, the HK movie that inspired The Departed. The music is very haunting like some kind of Celtic new age song. Even without watching the film you could feel the song connecting with your soul. Almost melancholic vibes. I think one of the many factors of the success of the film was also it's soundtrack
Nice unique theme song from the Jet Li's movie Fearless by Jay Chou. A remarkable combination of Oriental with Western style rap. Really a juxtaposition with the movie if you listen to it during the end credit.
Theme Song from the classic HK film A Chinese Ghost Story (1987), by the late Leslie Cheung who also acted in this film. The Chinese Ghost character played by the gorgeous Taiwanese actress Joey Wong was so beautiful and graceful that you would shed a tear when watching the film.
Chrysanthemum Terrace by Jay Chou. One of the theme songs used in the epic Wuxia Zhang Yimou film, Curse of the Golden Flower, 2006. A very nice song that connects with your emotions. Jay Chou also acted in this Hamlet like epic tale.
Cantonese theme song from Butterfly Lovers, a Hong Kong film from 1994 based on the epic classic Chinese literature about a lady who has to disguise as a man to go to a school, only to fall in love with a classmate.
The theme music was also very popular and has been performed countless time as a Chinese orchestra piece. Nicky Wu, a popular Taiwanese heartthrob sang this adaptation. Nicky also plays the lead in the film. The female lead is played by the very sweet HK actress, Charlie Yeung. Oddly she left the industry in 1997 and married a Singapore lawyer. She has made a comeback later
Charlie Yeung
This song is super melancholic and coupled with the sad narrative of the female character, my face would be wet in no time. I have the original soundtrack CD to this film and ironically, listened to it when I was sad back in the times, to disperse the bottled up sadness.
Light Years Away by G.E.M. , a HK singer. This hauntingly beautiful song is written as the theme song for the Chinese dubbed English film, Passengers, a powerful disturbing love story set in space. Listening to this song makes my eyes wet.
The Cantonese theme song of HK film infernal Affairs, sang by Andy Lau and Tony Leung, the two leads of the film. Tony will be in the upcoming Shang Chi film. The lyrics sang about living a never-ending painful cycle of life, in a realm that is neither heaven or hell, which is also the Chinese title of the film.
This is the Cantonese theme song of Hong Kong TVB drama Police Cadet 1985. It is a sequel to Police Cadet 1984. The series lead actor is Tony Leung who also sang this theme song. Tony Leung is in the upcoming Shangchi movie.
Back then I watched this series via rented bad quality VHS Tapes. We knew a couple of other neighbors and shared the tapes with them to split the cost of rental. The show was not shown on our public tv.
Theme song from The Duke of Mount Deer 1984, a Wuxia drama from Hong Kong TVB based off an Wuxia Novel. This live performance was by Andy Lau and Tony Leung who played the leads in the series. Tony played an uncastrated eunuch who managed to work in the palace and befriended the young emperor played by Andy Lau. Tony also has multiple girlfriends in the story. The story is mainly about the adventures of Tony's character Wai Siu Bao.
This drama is a Wuxia classic and has been remade over the years. Though this version was the most popular I believe. The original theme song was sung by Leslie Cheung.
This was another drama that I watched in Cantonese on rental VHS tapes with my mother.
The original singer of the theme song of The Duke of Mount Deer, the late Leslie Cheung. The clip contains pictures of the TVB drama with Tony Leung and Andy Lau a very long time ago when they started out in TV drama.
I know Tony Leung is a singer on top of being an actor. But I didn't know he could dance so well too as seen in this video. A dance by Maggie Cheung is also in it, another famous female veteran artist who seemed to have retired from the screen.
You are my Woman, a Cantonese song by Andy Lau 1998. It was the theme song to the HK film A True Mob Story. Andy Lau played the lead in the film. This is one of his more popular songs. A collaboration with Kenny G. The lyrics was about a man who lamented his love for a woman he could not have have due to his circumstances. And that he has to change the way he loved her. He also said that men never learned to let go of women in his position and ended up hurting the women in the process.
I really like this song and the film. The Chinese title of the film is Dragon in the lakes and rivers (Jianghu). Jianghu is a term frequently used in Wuxia stories and triad films. While literal meaning is lake and rivers, it is actually used to describe a world full of adventure with high chances of gaining great fortunes but also getting yourself killed in the process.
In Wuxia stories, some heroes stepped into Jianghu to serve the greater good to fight evil and defend the poor and helpless. Some wanted to be the world's number one swordsman. In triad films it is usually used to describe someone getting involved in a a world of crime. In both cases, once you step into Jianghu, it is very hard to extricate yourself from it.
This film has a rather good plot with crimes and romance thrown in.
Gigi Leung, the HK lead actress in the film. Once very popular with male fans.
