Remember when the game was FUN?

Any one in the game designers' ear? I have a suggestion, and I'm sure i'm not the only one...

They need to bring back the 'fun' in the game.

I miss the way the game used to be. Actually Tapping.
It's all "send X amount of characters to do this job" now. I'm in and out of the game in less than 5 mins.
What happened to having something to actually DO?

I remember Christmas events where you can hide presents in friends' towns, and finding ones they left for you. Same with Easter Eggs. Prisoners/bandits on the loose to 'catch' and snakes running around on Whacking Day.
Not to mention we are STILL waiting for the Road to Riches "coming soon" to finally update.

*sigh* I really enjoyed playing Tapped Out.. but now its just boring.

  • thanks for the reply!
im too scared to nuke my town lol there is just so much effort in it.
sometimes i do rearrange sections, especially when a new building or deco is released
(halloween zone, medical zone etc) but never all at once

hopefully a dev sees this! Defiantly need tapping events again.
  • I feel your pain. I miss the days when events had variety. Anticipation of the next event's format was one of the most exciting times.

Honestly it's been long enough they could re-release any previous event style now and it would seem new.

I suspect there's a bigger reason behind the lack of diversity in new events, but it's just speculation.

I have made my best effort to find "fun" in my game anyway. Even though my town is 99% finished, I still like to "play" in my town every day, by resetting my favorite visual tasks for certain characters that I find hilarious or cute. The rest of the characters I reset daily on 24hr cycle just for donut rounds.

I've also hidden my IRS building, and returned to individually tapping all the rent money collections. I do use the Skyfinger once daily. But yeah there is something satisfying about tapping again.

We have to be a little more imaginative these days, but im still doing it; and still having fun!
All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!
  • I hated the events where you needed to visit friends to do things as Bart was all over the place and it took ages to restart the game and do those things. It's still seldom that I can't visit all my friends in one sweep but Bart comes in at least once during the sweep. I actually stopped playing for long time after one Halloween event in the first years where you needed to go to neigbours all the time.

So that's about those events. But then there were these build your own part of Springfiekd events where you earned "money" to spend on what decorations you wanted to buy and those were fun.

Now you have to pay donuts to get walls for coralling what ever the event gives you. No new walls this christmas event but then again mostlly no new buildings & decorations either. Had a entrance to last years christmas enclosure so bought some walls and created extra large christmas enclosure. Will move all christmasy things in there when ground is not snowy anymore.
  • I really miss the friend-related events too. I understand the frustration with server disconnects though. It’s gotten worse over the years and I imagine trying to do one now would be a Bart nightmare. I also didn’t like that there was no clear direction on how to find new friends. A google search eventually led me to these forums, but that’s not really a user friendly solution. Before discovering the forums, I tried starting as many different towns as I could just so I wouldn’t be at such a disadvantage. It was rough. If EA could guide people here to fill their friends list and improve the server issues, friend events could be a great way to reinvigorate interest. In the game & the forums!

I also think they need to do SOMETHING about Road to Riches, and friend point levels too. If they have abandoned the ideas, at least update the wording so it doesn’t say “coming soon” or “so far.” Just tell me I’ve completed it and I can adjust my expectations. They can always add more to it later and alert players with dialogue or a kick-off quest.

Without friend events or updates to friend points, the only game driven reason to visit friends is to maintain 5 star socialism. I personally love seeing how other people are designing their towns, but that isn’t reason enough to visit on a daily basis. Definitely opportunity for improvement there.

When it comes to tapping, I find myself trying to avoid using the unemployment office when I have time. It’s nice to have the option in a pinch, but I hate it when I use it to send everyone on a 4hr task and 75% my characters are in Smooches on the Beach (or Chez Guevara for 8hrs). I’d rather manually pick the tasks so I can display the variety of animations. I also challenge myself by trying find every character to send on tasks without the quick finder. I can usually get about 450 of the 475 characters I have on my own, before giving in and quick finding the last few. Takes a lot more than 5 minutes to reset it all and is much more satisfying.
  • I miss the first Halloween event, with the Mayan god, and how it interacted with the show.
  • I tried explaining to my 8 year old how much fun the Halloween events were. Busting ghosts, squishing zombies. Collecting valentines in other towns. I can’t believe I’ve played this since 2012.
  • I still get some enjoyment out of the game, but the town building has always been my favorite part. I agree that it has gotten a bit monotonous over the last few years. I too miss the early events, especially THOH and Christmas/Winter.
  • People, please stop complaining. You guys complained about crafting in events, and they got rid of that. That ship has sailed. It isn't coming back.

The grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence. You don't know what you had until it's gone, etc. etc.

I do agree that the game is boring, but c'mon the game's been going on for a decade now (which is a helluva long time for a mobile game), and The Simpsons have 30+ years of material (which is also a helluva long time).

We should even be thankful that they still give us new content, they could easily pull the plug on the game and not even give us the time of day.

I don't like the overemphasis on mini-events in between the big, main events. They all blur together to me.

  • People, please stop complaining.

We need something to do between events. :D

I'd like that also. I listened to their quarterly call to see if they made any mention of it. But no there was no mention. I'd really like to hear the standing of the game and it's performance on the market.

Remember when the game was FUN?
A: Yes. And I think the game is still fun. I always liked the crafting portion of events. Which was actually a pretty good implementation. Tap npcs for currency. Use currency for new stuff. The dig sites were ok. I really like the polyvac mini game. I still find the game very enjoyable. It has good days and bad days. But the game as a whole remains the great cartoon prodigy. I love playing and have moments of enjoyment when popping in. The game is still fun. I think they will do something intricate again. May not be a event. But it could be something like the polyvac.

    The game is still FUN!

  • My opinion, they had a developer on staff that came up with a lot of crazy new ideas for each event. It took lots of planning and designing and while the end result was really cool, there were weeks between events where nothing happened and it always resulted in some significant glitches. I’m not talking about the Bart screen but serious game-breaking glitches. I remember a period of time where people could randomly log in and find they were in someone else’s town. Then they would spend all their donuts on junk or trash their town. Fortunately I never had to deal with any major glitches but I remember so many people complaining about problems with their game. I know some are still dealing with issues from way back then. I think EA finally decided to switch to more frequent cookie-cutter events. I’m sure they’re saving a ton of money on their Customer Support and they don’t lose people during the long stretches where there are no events going on. It’s more appealing to newer players who constantly have something to do but for the older players it can definitely be boring, especially when we have unlimited donuts.

Speaking of which, I hate to say it but the moment I reached the point where I could acquire unlimited donuts and therefore purchase pretty much any item I wanted, that’s really when the game started getting boring for me. There’s something to be said about working hard to earn donuts (clicking on friends’ towns, looking for Maggie, completing Day Tasks) and having just enough to purchase one or two items each event. I kind of liked going into friends’ towns to see what items they got from the current event. Now it seems most people have everything and most friends don’t bother decorating their town or just gave up long ago.

Anyway, I still think it’s fun but I definitely don’t invest as much time as I used to because I really don’t need to. Decorating is what I now find fun but I’ll be honest, I get tired of all the buildings and wish we get more decorations.
  • I've only been interested in the design aspect so I still think it's fun. A lot less pressure to grind away at things now.
  • I still think it's fun and I'm still loving the game.

However, there are things id like see get added and re-visited.

Things like Friendship Prizes. That will give everyone a reason to visit their neighbors and interact with their towns while at the same time try and unlock new prizes.

Road to Riches is another thing they could bring back to invest all our hard earned cash towards while earning new prizes.

Episode Tie-Ins could return with a new prize and small quest line like they used to
  • There are small things in new events that make me smile. Two last examples were: In the Great Simpsina event we got a decoration that opened a joint job between a new character and an old one. And I bought the latest Gil's promotion only because I had the donuts but the fact that it opens a double paying 8 hr job for Barney was just nice touch.

lol, yeah. I get where you're coming from. But, like, I feel this particular thing has been just beaten to death. We all know it's been like this for a long time. And yeah, a change of pace from what we've had would be nice. But, we'd probably be complaining about the change sooner, rather than later.

I do enough complaining at work. XD

People complained before and they'll complain again. Just try to enjoy it for what it is.

  • If the game was as it once was, I think I would have stopped playing. There were days when I set my alarm to wake up at 2 am to get Black Friday items I'd always wanted. Or to stay on schedule to make sure to get all items on the prize track. I mean, that's a bit much. Tha's borderline obsessive. So, I'm glad it's calmed down. I still love it.

  • Still really like the game, never played any other game as long as this one, would I like a bit more variety in the event format most definitely but it's not a game breaker for me and I certainly don't want to go back to having to grind out items that I didn't want just to progress on to the next prize.
