Have you tried clicking on the origin logo? Deleting all friends? Then after they're all deleted you can add more and not have to spend money to complete the friends quest. When you first login, before clicking tap to continue, click on the origin logo in the bottom left corner. Click on friends, click on a friend and view there profile. From the profile you can delete the friend.
That whole evil mystery box was *. I had the same thing happen. Why give us something that is easily attained anyway? But, they game does work for the majority. There are workarounds.
I enjoyed this game. I spent real cash playing this game. But now it's so unstable, it's unplayable.
Like many I lost the ability to visit friends, and for the split second I can see other Springfield's, there are only 2 on the screen. So it seems I have lost all of my friends. To back up that statement I received a task today to "CHOO CHOO CHOOSE" friends. The same task I had when I started only now I don't have the 5 doughnuts to do so.
So I will have to buy, or wait to find 5 doughnuts so I can get back the ability to add friends that I already spent doughnuts on.
It loses connection to server so often that I found it easier to just assign 12 hour task and just check it twice a day.
Forget about trying to rearrange the town. I tired and it dropped so many times I just left crap in my inventory and gave up.
And to top it off the last Mystery box I received, gave me 10 treats and the next day all the treats went away.
My plan when I started was to spend $20 a month playing this game until I created the Springfield I wanted. I will not be spending another dime on this game. Honestly I'm not sure how much longer I will even be playing it.
EA has confirmed they know about the bugs and they're working to get everything fixed. Have patience.
As for the Choo-Choo-Choose task, I'm totally confused by what your problem is. For that one you have to add five friends and it gives you a donut as a reward. You can spend five donuts to skip the task and then get one donut as a reward but that would just be silly. If you're having issues right now the Choo-Choo-Choose thing will sit in your taskbook forever so wait until the game is fixed, add friends then, take your free donut and enjoy yourself.

Guess I read that one wrong. I assumed that I still had 60 friends so it didn't make sense that it was asking me to do it again. I deleted all of my friends and it does let me get back to the other Springfield list.
I get that there will be bugs and issues. I just wish I had some confidence that when I spend the cash I'll be able to play. I have tried several times since I posted this and it still crashes every 15 to 30 seconds. I just assigned everyone I could a 24 hour task and closed it.
I had the same issue, would crash after a few seconds, couldn't access friends. What fixed it for me was deleting all friends. Haven't been game to add anyone again. Hope this helps

There is an easier way to delete friends that I have found. Install origin on your computer and log in. You can delete and add friends there. Much simpler than doing it from the game.
