Sticky Tips : How to create and upload Panoramic Screenshots

Prev1
Are you talking about Windows Live Photo Gallery? I have it on my PC but never used it, if you could explain how to stitch using that it would be great (unless I just have to blend all the pictures manually).

    4. Upload the new panoramic image to a picture hosting site. I use PostImage.org, others use Dropbox. Most are free and will work directly from iOS, so again, no PC is needed

Would it be possible to elaborate on how to upload directly from iOS? I've tried using PostImage.org but have only been able to link an avatar from a URL. I don't seem to be able to upload a screenshot from my iPad2 because the Choose File button is greyed out.

Apparently it's a Safari issue...doesn't surprise me. I figured it out with Photobucket's mobile app....now I need to figure out how to resize with the mobile app.

I have no problem stitching images, but I have all 169 plots of land unlocked and it is just too frustrating (for me anyway) trying to get all the screenshots taken. Hopefully they will develop a whole town screenshot view in the future.

It sounds like your device settings may not be allowing access to your photos.

Sorry, not used this, just know others have. If someone else can explain I'll add it to the first post. I think there's a built in panorama mode that does it all for you.

Yeah, it just 'works' for me, once you click upload it then asks my permission to access my photos. Let us know how you get on and I'll update the above.

I got it figured out using Photobucket's mobile app. I haven't figured out how to do it with postimage.org. I can't find anything in my settings to give access. It may be a Safari thing. What browser do you use?

The ability to upload photos direct from Safari (eg PostImage.org) was only made available in iOS 6 so I've just read. Any help?

Ah, that would explain it. I haven't gotten around to updating to 6 yet. I'll let you know if it solves the issue once I do. Thanks !

For mobile photo sharing I loved smugmug, but it's only free for 14 days. If I had the money I'd buy it. It's incredibly convenient via the app camera awesome, but I usually go on the site to get the resized photo link. The medium is perfect for this forum... Does anyone know one as good as smug mug? My 14 day trial is up...

Put all of your screen shots into a folder. Open the program. At the top, select 'Create.' It's between 'Select' and 'View.' Find the folder your screen shots are in on the menu to the left. Select them all. Click 'Panorama' at the top and it will do the rest.

Thanks for this :) I'm in the middle of redesigning now so will give this a go tomorrow.

I thought I'd summarise all the tips regarding how to create and upload panoramic screen shots to the forum, and attempt to create a sticky topic on the subject.

    1. All iOS devices have the ability to take a screen shot of any screen currently showing on their display. Just press and hold the power button, immediately tap the home button, then release the power button. Your screen will flash, your device will make a camera noise, and an image will be saved in your photos folder.

    2. To create a panorama, you have to take multiple overlapping images of your town in this manner. Ensure you're on max zoom, clear any cash awaiting collection, and wait until the icons/status display times out so you are left with a clean screen.

    3. Next is the tricky bit of stitching all these screen shots together. If you have access to a PC, Windows Live Photo Gallery will do this for free. Put all of your screen shots into a folder. Open the program. At the top, select Create, Find the folder your screen shots are in on the menu to the left. Select them all. Click 'Panorama' at the top and it will do the rest. If you want an iOS only solution, I use an iPhone app called AutoStitch (1.99), works fine on the iPad. You can also manually stitch your images together using a package like photoshop if you prefer hard work.

4a. Resize your Image, or get your image hosting site to do it as you upload. I recommend 640x480 for normal images, and panoramic images 1600x1200 seems to work well. You don't want panoramas too close-up and make people do a lot of scrolling. Being able to see large portions of your town at once is the idea. (Other thoughts?). If you really want to post a super hi-res image, post a thumbnail and then link to the hi-res image as a URL - it'll then be viewable full screen and zoomable in Safari should anyone click on it.

    4. Upload the new panoramic image to a picture hosting site. I use PostImage.org, others use Dropbox. Most are free and will work directly from iOS (iOS 6.0 or above is required to upload photo from Safari), so again, no PC is needed.

    5. After uploading the image, get the direct link and post it on your favourite screenshot thread inside IMG tags. If you're at level 2 in the forum people will see your image, otherwise they will just see the link, although various kind soles who are at level two will often repost it for you so it's visible.

I know these tips are a little brief, but I'll keep updating them as we go, making this a sort of sticky topic. Does this sound like a good idea?

If so, let me know your preferred method of stitching, best apps/software, and alternative hosting sites and other tips relating to screen shots I'll edit this post accordingly.

Updates: added iOS 6.0 & Safari clarification. Added Windows live photo gallery instructions. Added resize suggestions.

I downloaded the auto stitch app on my iPad and took screenshots of my town but when it comes to stitching them together it all turns into one big blurred mess! help!!!
