I used to think it was a real sucker's game under the original odds and when I really needed to save money. Fortunately cash isn't a huge issue (unless they come up with more $multimillion decorations) and odds are better.
Now I just pick one horse and bet on it every time. The horse? 'Not a Chance' of course. It seems to pay out quite often when the odds are good. Never got the long shot like you though.

Ive won once like 2k and I bet daily ( twice a day if memory serves me right). After a month in inventory it went. Ive been working on quests and land expansions
I used to always pick the longest shot, because it had the biggest pay off, but after several weeks of never winning at all, I just went back to betting 2 to 1, which seems to two times out of every three, which to me seemed better than constantly loosing two grand and never getting anything back.

I'm in the same boat, hit it twice in one week in early sept, but def haven't won since the beginning of Halloween
This kind of makes me want to bring it out of storage and give it a try
