Personally I don't like to store anything that earns money or adds to my bonus, I want to keep making money. So I will generally pile all that stuff up in an area that I'm not going to be working on at the moment. I will store all the decorations that don't affect my income.

I also find it easier to buy lots of decorations beforehand and store them, so I can design from my inventory instead of purchasing them as I design. There are a couple of reasons I do this. First, I find it difficult to see what I'm designing with all the XPs floating around. Second, the inventory is sorted alphabetically (more or less), so similar items are right next to each other: all 8 normal trees are in a row, all the different shrubs are next to each other, all the flowers are grouped together. The exception to this is really the various "borders", e.g. chain fence, barbed wire fence, wooden fence, large hedge. Still it's easier to have a surplus of these items on hand rather than buying as you need them.

In my wildest dreams, EA would somehow magically give me a ZOOM OUT function, so I can --you know -- PLAN my city.

(Forgive the shouting. I know it's possible to plan using tools akin to spreadsheets, Photoshop grids, etc ... But it would be nice to know where to plot roads using only the program, and set up zones, and ... Well ... I'm frustrated with the absence of a zoom out feature. ... Sigh.)

As a graphic designer, I feel your pain. I also want to be able to group objects and move them.

that might be a blessing and a curse
i would be very pissed if i somehow selected my whole town and placed everything into storage by mistake.
my phone would probably end up smashed against the wall
