I've been thinking this as well. If this count is based on presents you give neighbors, this is going to be very difficult to accomplish. I have been tapping 100 neighbors each day and still have only managed to get 40-50 presents back in a day. The first day I got a whopping 18 presents. Hopefully there is a better explanation but, it does seem rather inflated right now. We man handled the halloween community gifts well before the end of the event. So we shall see.
I'd post a pic but it's not letting me on my tablet. It's gift bags being counted. Look and read the info given in the community total screen in game. Specifically say gift bags given to friends.
I'm pretty sure Halloween had similar wording, like "Drop Gremlins in your friend's towns to add to the community total."
That said, I agree, something is not right. 2 weeks to get 450 mil while earning 30 per visit, vs 1 week to get 1 bil while earning 8 per visit. Either the number of players has dropped by a factor of 10, or cards are not the thing being counted. or the counter is completely bogus.
The community prize page for Halloween told us to "gather goo in your Springfield to add it to the community total," which left the impression that goo gathered outside your SF wasn't counted, though it obviously was.
I, personally, am of the opinion that it's gift cards, not gift bags, that add to the community total - the argument was already comparing gremlins to gift bags, and that they both drop the event currency. It doesn't sense to me to have 2 currencies for an event. I think right now, the counter is just off like it was for Halloween.
How do you check the totals for the community prizes?
Can't find it after they showed it to me when the event started.
In your Springfield, tap the Trophy in the bottom right corner, next to your Neighbor icon. Then, click the group of people (make sure the icon with just Homer is not the one highlighted, that represents your personal prizes.)

If it were gift cards, we'd be in a higher number. The community thing says put gift bags in other peoples springfields to add to the community.
The exact wording in game on the community prize page is "Deliver Gift Bags to your friends' towns to add to the community total."
On the ? page (event info page) the exact wording is "Collect Gift Cards to win 10 exclusive PERSONAL prizes" and "Drop Gift Bags in friends' towns to contribute toward 5 exclusive COMMUNITY prizes."
I really don't see how there is confusion to what's being counted. It is not the same as Halloween. It is a different event so why follow what happened in the Halloween event when the description of what is happening in this event explains extremely clearly what items are being counted for what prize totals.

I'm personally with you on this one...there seems to be serious disagreement on this topic though.
I just can't see how we could be at the total we are now if we are only getting like 30 gift bags to give out a day...and that's been on a good day. That would mean i have only contributed like 100~ gift bags since the event started. I don't see how we could be at the millions and millions that we are now if an active player is only contributing somewhere between 20-40 bags a day. Ya know? That's just how i'm seeing it right now..
I don't think we are. The pace was around 25 million a day which would take 18 days to just get the first prize. I personally think it's crap that it's bags and not gift cards. I rarely get bags out of presents and have collected maybe only 150-200 so far. How are they going to make prizes off if something you randomly get? Gift cards would have been easier and made a lot more sense.
If you click the help icon for the Christmas event in game it says "collect gift cards to get the personal prizes." When you click to the community one it says "deliver gift bags to add to the total." Monkeyman was right only gift bags count which I still think is crap.
What I don't get is that during Halloween when visiting a friend you could get a gremlin by tapping their houses or killing their ghosts. And now during Christmas you can only get gift bags from your own town. If they were a possibility to get them back from friends houses you would have a chance of earning a lot more.

Maybe they did this on purpose so everyone would whine and moan then Christmas morning we receive them all for nothing.
I'd prefer they just make a real community meter where we can miss like the last prize; but, maybe you're right. It's not unlikely that this has something to do with the Grumple storyline.
I think EA has a little sense of humor and we will reach the first one at 450,000,000 the next at one at 450,000,001 and so forth just to keep us all worried about getting all of them. Or we will wake up on Jan 8th and EA says here are so e late Christmas presents......
IMO, the most of the community prizes aren't all THAT great anyway. As long as I get my personal prizes (which I'm scheduled to finish tomorrow), I'm fine.
So, for the community prizes we need to deliver a high number of bags ... And the number of these bags is in the total control of EA. And EA is giving me 16 bags (that was yesterday) no matter how many friends I visit, and no matter how many times I tap. So EA is in total control of whether our "community" HAS enough bags to deliver.
I have the option to log on once per day and get my randomly-generated number of bags and visit my friends to drop them off. Or I can log on frequently, tap away, and STILL can only drop off the same number.
This, in a word, sucks.

Did you read the difference between gift cards and gift bags??
