It's literally an electronic first grade note, "do you want to be my friend check yes or no."
Where is the option for "maybe"? There was always a "maybe" option in first grade!
I've only gotten a few random invites since I started participating in the forum.
Should I take that as a hint? That nobody wants to be friends with me? :P
Thanks everyone for your responses and points of view.
I guess part of my issue was also feeling guilty for declining requests.
But from now on I'll take any requests as a compliment and get over the guilt if I have to decline, after all that's my issue not theirs
I often get friend requests without a pm and if I have space add them. I regular cull my friends too if they do not appear to be playing or play so much there is never anything to tap when I visit. If a new neighbour doesn't visit me in the first few days after adding they get wiped as well.
I went months with out a friends request. But as soon as I added the bar in my sig. To say I was full iv been getting 5+
Are they misreading or being bumholes?
But it's not much of an issues for me as I don't accept random invites.
I use an ipad. I can not read your sig bars without zooming in. Now I am old and do not have perfect vision but for people on smaller devices I would imagine it's all but impossible to read normally without zooming in for a closer look.
Weirdly enough, I'm getting less requests since I removed the "PM me first" note in my siggy. Most I ever had at one time was 3. But I've never put myself in the add me thread here. I guess no one likes my game name?
It's probably asking for trouble to admit this but, as long as I've had room, I've accepted every request. Especially during the events. I figure, just cause I add them doesn't mean I have to keep them. If they never visit during events and / or stop playing, I can always delete them later.
Every friend request I've sent out to people on this forum were always after a PM. It just seems like most people prefer it that way.

Me too. Most of my friends are people who have added me randomly, and almost all visit me. They also have beautiful towns. Most are level 38, and those that are lower levels, I am happy to help out as well it doesn't matter to me if they are "forum regulars" or not.

Same with me, most of my friends arent't forum regulars but the've all been added from this site and most are daily players. Its nice to have forum posters but they're not the only ones that make great neighbours.
For the signature notice, it could be that people have signatures turned off so that the pages load faster and aren't even seeing it.
I'm only up to 24. I added a bunch before the Christmas event so that wiped them out but in all honesty I don't get nearly as much random requests as my female friends do. Don't know if it's coincidence but I think being a dude, I don't get as many random ones.
I don't really object. In fact I kinda thinks it's cool. I'm at 70 neighbors now and don't anticipate posting to any more "Add me" threads again, but getting a request here and there at random is pretty great.
In my opinion, a friend request is just that.... a request to be a friend/neighbor. If you don't want to be a friend with that person, hit the decline button.
1) It's simpler than going through a PM exchange,
2) It's analogous to asking the question "Can I ask you a question?".... you just did.. just ask the question already!!
I had 100 friends in two towns and have dropped down to 75 each-
If I get a request without a PM I generally add them--Figuring it's a new player and I want to encourage new players.
I keep players that have stopped playing if they have tiles to tap, otherwise I delete them after a month of no play or visits.
It's nice to get a PM first--but not a requirement.
Would be nice though if their level was indicated in the request.

(very very few PM's too even if it's in my sig)
I started getting random adds as soon as I started posting in the forums. I decline them, mostly because I'm looking for a certain type of player. I appreciate PMs when someone wants to be added.
I wonder - do people get notified if they get declined? I declined someone yesterday, and they tried adding me again. Maybe they just go through their neighbors everyday... but it seems annoying that you'd try to get added by someone even if they already said no.
