I'm not sure what specifically you're trying to get going downwards, hedges? fences? so no exact pics sorry.

Hope these are helpful

Thanks for the links, don't think I explained myself very well, I have done a few 3D effects going upwards (Springfield sign, multi story car park etc etc) but I want to create one looking like it is going down, i.e. a hole, using the wall bricks. I have seen one somewhere here, but I can't seem to get the front of mine looking correct. I will post. Pic of what I have done so far when I get a minute.

This is from one of my neighbors. It looks like what you are talking about.

I would try a taller wall for the front. I don't think you can make steps going down in front. The same way my pyramids are flat on the back.
Maybe try layering your step materials. Stone bush stone bush. I'll post a couple pics in a min. to show you the difference.

I layered here. I think it looks better than having the same materials. It doesn't work everywhere though meaning pyramids should be stone. To me the bushes only work because it's a temple with a artistic tranquil feel.
    i1B7Ypql.jpg
Here I used stone. Obviously the back and left sides don't look perfect. The stones blend together. You would get the same result in the front and right if you are stepping down. Which is the problem you have.
Let me know what you think and what works.

Thanks Johnny50373, Worked on my design abit more, does it appear to be going down? Do you think using the hedges would help?

I think it does appear to be going down, but the hedges will serve that purpose better (I think the darker edges on top are more defined on hedges vs the wall)

Here is my burial grounds attempt (I've since dumped the design, but may re-visit it). Sorry it isn't the "cleanest" of shots; I snapped it during my first town re-design.

    Agreed.
I might be wrong but i think the bushes are a touch taller than the stones.
I would leave the slopes stone. Replacing bushes will bring up the edges plus the contrasting colors(bush top perimeter and stone going down) will pop more.
Let us know what you. Come up with. I love what you are doing with it.

Tried it with hedges now, which do people think works better, I wanted the stones to work better but think the hedges give a better perspective.

That's a real awesome and creative concept as well as design, although there might be a few donuts in that garbage pile!

    Thank you.
This was one of my first real design projects. I'm pretty proud of it.

Depending on what you want to put in the hole, you can also use fences to build your hole. I have also seen it done with wooden fences.

Thanks for the idea, not thought about using fences, I want it to appear that my skyscrapers are sunk down abit. You can see on previous posts I have tried stones and hedges. I will have to try fences, and see which I prefer.

And I like the idea of the UFO hidden away in a hole.

For what you want to do, I think the bushes or the stone walls would work best, but I would be curious to see how it looks done with fence. The bushes tend to give it more of a step down into the hole where the fences tend to give the illusion of flat walls. So it really depends on what you are after.

I just bought the skyscraper and magnifying glass, so now I am done with big purchases and get to bring in the bulldozers and flatten my house farm. Which is where I plan on moving the UFO bunker to and making my own little area51 in Springfield.

Not bad, but to sell it better, would try losing the hedges and aligning the top of the fences to the top of the gray pavement. If you need hedges or walls around the perimeter, I think it would be better to align the top of the fence to the top of the gray rather than having it overlap the hedge, which dilutes the illusion by making it noticeable that we are looking at fences.

Next, would use bushy trees to conceal spots where the fence doesn't make it rather than using overlapping fences. This would require having a strip of non-pavement free at the bottom and on the right side.

Alternately, you can stick with the stepped hedges, which look neat.

Tried it again with the fences, I had to use trees for the front to try and create the perspective, I can always change the trees, use different types etc etc,
