So the only way to fix this is with a second device??
Really???
So who wants to login for me?
UPDATE: will i just snuck into my friend's town since i know her login, and sure enough she's got a town full of handshakes. I collected them all, then visited my own town from hers.
When i logged back into my own, the handshakes were there.
I'll have to wait until morning for her to log onto mine and see if this is a fix.
It is still crashing though.
Thanks for the tip!

All my designs look unfinished because i can't place as many plants, streetlights, and fences as i would like. PLEASE REMOVE THE LIMIT, EA!
seriously log in from another device?? can't they just fix it with a patch seeing how for most of us these issues only started happening after they updated the game
i don't have access to another device i might have to use bluestacks.. but i really don't like fixing problems caused by new updates myself they really should patch this and the server error
I routinely play on two devices -- a Samsung Galaxy III (android) and a Nexus 7 (android). I do MAIN town rounds to my neighbors on the Galaxy because it "only" crashes every third or fourth person. On Monday, I did rounds using the clunky old iPad.
I do feeder rounds on the Nexus. I also use the iPad to do occasional sweeps of my town, since the screen is larger.
Since the update, due to the mess with handshakes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled on every one of the devices, I swear to God, AT LEAST twice. Each device. All three.
My main town shows almost no handshakes, EVEN FROM MY OWN FEEDERS. Some of my feeders have handshakes and some do not. (Notice I said "almost" ... Wouldn't it be all or nothing if there was a malfunction?)
How does that make any sense based on those instructions in the original post?
I select a device, log into each of my ten feeders. From that feeder, I visit the other nine. I then enter the next feeder, visit the other nine. And I repeat the routine through all ten towns. One after the other. SOME show handshakes and others do not. The towns vary, BTW. Sometimes annettemarc3 and annettemarc4 may show no handshakes, and then the next day, different towns have the problem.
How does that make any sense based on those instructions in the original post?
Some days I use different devices. ALL have problems to the same extent.
How does that make sense?
If you look at the thread I started days ago, you will see that SOME handshakes appear without notifications, SOME notifications appear without handshakes, and in MOST cases, nothing shows up at all.
Totally inconsistent. How would the instructions in the first post make any sense? Three devices. Ten towns. Notifications. No notifications. Handshakes. No handshakes.
Those instructions are total pig doots.

I am playing two games and tried this "solution" on yet a third Mac product and it has NOT worked for me. I tap out friends at 4-5am MST and my towns rarely received handshakes. I have not received handshakes from my real life friends in 4 days (they are tapping).
Sorry this hasn't worked for some people. It worked at first for me then it stopped working I contacted Ea told them I'm still having problems I'm just waiting to hear from them.
Well, using my Nexus, i just entered my town for the first time this morning. New world record. ZERO handshakes. Get Guinness. (Rolls eyes.). Over 60 neighbors. Zero taps.
I then followed those instructions to the letter, signing out of the Nexus and signing in using my Samsung Galaxy III. Cleared every dollar sign, cash register, and pile of cash. Went to visit "Other Springfield" and performed three actions. Logged out. Went back to Nexus and logged in.
Still zero handshakes.
Logged out of my main town
Using my iPad (just for excitement), I then logged in and out of THREE of my feeders, one after the other, and visited/tapped my main town. I have a little campground of six brown houses and the Simpsons, and Kwik-E-Mart, plus the three graffiti buildings were available for tapping.
Tappety tap tap.
While doing this I received ONE notification that one of my other friends was visiting my town. No notification about any of my feeders. Fed the cat, who had been clawing my leg.
Reentered my main town. Woo hoo! Three handshakes, all from from the second feeder. Nothing from the other two. Nothing from the neighbor.
Unfortunately, I fear the only thing I have accomplished is to take away almost all possible tap-ready buildings from neighbors.
Those instructions, for my case, are pig doots. Happy they are helping others, though!
