Aside from the occasional volleyball court on my beaches, these are the only uses of them in my town.
My elementary school has one:
My Springfield Park has one, if only because I try to cram as many recreational things in there as I could... I'm not sure if it fits, really
I hid most of a volleyball court behind a building so it can look like a sort of sand pit in my training area for the police.
That's why I did it! Glad you think it looks good, too, but I never would have thought of it if we had, say, a simple decoration that would boost consumerism.
