Out of the three THOH Events, does anyone else feel this one is "bleh?"

    1. There's a real lack of a core story.

    2. There's *currently* no tie in to this year's Halloween episode, unlike previous years. Does anyone know if there's going to be? The episode airs Sunday, any news of a tie-in? I may have seen a pop-up dialogue saying something about the 20th? Can anyone clarify?

No. Near the end of the Clash of Clones event I logged on maybe once every other day. During THOH so far I log about every two hours.

I like free content, and this event has delivered so far.

The prizes aren't as good, but there are some good ones still. I think they changed the pacing because in older events like last year, you'd play for a week and have the whole event done. Then you'd be playing for close to a month with nothing to do for the actual event. This way isn't really any better though, as you're still playing for a good period of time with nothing to do, it's just more spread out between quests.
I read people say the prizes aren't as good. What prizes in THOH 2013 do you think, in particular, are better than THOH 2014?

Kodos, Count Burns, Maude, Church of Lard Lad. I can't remember if Ultrahouse 2 was part of it or another event, but I like that one as well.

I really like the model of staggering out the prizes and milestones over the course of the event. I hope this is a model that continues.

Don't be surprised if the fog rolls in closer to the 31st. EA has shown they are willing to do a lot of small stuff throughout an event now and I love the direction.

I like the general feel of the event in terms of having different things to do and it's pretty entertaining, but the downfall again is the prizes. Honestly the prizes have been disappointing for every event we've had since Christmas. Is EA just running out of ideas for what to offer, or did they decide to be less generous so they can keep things back for future events and stretch out the life of the game? Or maybe they've decided to go more heavily for requiring donuts for everything, so the prizes you can just win for free are getting less and less interesting.

Anyway, consider what you could win for free last Christmas: Helter Shelter, Claus Co., skating rink, Costington's, Springfield Mall. I'm sure I'm leaving out other stuff, but you get the idea.

I like the first THOH event. This is one is the worst out of all of them. I'm tired of EA releasing old material to appeal to newbies because they don't create enough new material for original players. I would suggest if they release old material it should be a donut purchase not part of the storyline prizes.

Halloween and Christmas will both offer limited time items. If their are kids you know you want, get them now as they will help in this event. Otherwise wait on the regular items and pace any purchases.

Bored? No, not really. Agreed there could be more going on besides the constant trick or treating but that's the way they plan the running of the event.

They can't please everyone (or anyone possibly) - this event has no wheel of random chance, you play the game, you can win some prizes. This pleases some, irritates others. Previous events had a wheel of chance, you play the game, you can win some prizes. This pleases some, irritates others.

It seems that EA are stuffed whatever they do *shrug*

I think the event is alright, I enjoyed Halloween more last year I will admit.

I wish they had community prizes again (I enjoyed seeing that enormous counter continually flicking up), wish the egg drop rates were higher (and worked properly so you got credit for them) and I wish more people would seem to enjoy playing tapped out

Your reply makes no sense at all. The bags have nothing to do with chances. Materials are guaranteed and it is very easy to get enough materials to craft everything.

This event has bags that are just devolved boxes or wheels of random chance. You just don't get a chance at a prize directly, you only get a chance at a part of a prize.

And remember: if everyone was guaranteed to win every prize, it would not be a game. Lots of players have become lazy and expect to have everything with the snap of a finger. Its a game. Sometimes you lose ergo don't win everything,

I am enjoying this year's Halloween event, but I must confess that I also feel a little underwhelmed. On one level, I guess there was no way for it to compete with the expectations I built up in my mind. However, on the other hand, it does kind of feel like a retread.

The first two Treehouse of Horror events were complete free-for-alls. Alien invasions, gods and demons, technology gone amok, and fairy tale creatures all mashed together in a glorious rigmarole of activity. Halloween 2012 -- which I didn't participate in, but read extensively about -- featured zombies, Mayan Gods, aliens, Devil Flanders, witches, and haunted houses, while 2013 featured ghosts, vampires, more aliens, insane technology, more witches, and a freak show. What does this year bring? An alien invasion, which is essentially a retread of Kang's (2012) and Kodos' (2013) story arcs from the previous events. The story arc with Hugo is a nice change of pace, but the reliance on what happened before is kinda...old.

Speaking of old, there is kind of a reliance in re-releasing old content from the past two years. Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with rereleasing the old buildings, skins, and characters. Hell, I must have spent $100 to get the old and new content last year. But the new prizes and purchasables feel kind of sparse compared to the volume of past content.

Also, they could have added some more playable characters and skins. The first Halloween event brought us one new character (Kang) and three skins (Mayan Homer, Devil Flanders, and Witch Marge), and the second Halloween brought us a staggering four new characters (Kodos, Suzanne the Witch, Booberella, and Ghost Maude) and two skins (Strongman Homer and Count Burns), but so far all we've got are two new characters -- Hugo and the Space Mutant -- and one skin (Alien Burns). I mean, come on, you introduce the teleporters as a purchasable content, but no Fly-Headed Bart skin?

And even if you wanted to stay exclusively with aliens, you could have included some other playable alien characters, such as some of adult Bart's girlfriends from the recent Days of Future Future, or even Jenda's boyfriend Jerry.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm still enjoying the event, and I'm sure there's some more content that's around the corner (they always have a tie-in to the season's Halloween episode, so we'll see). I just wish it was a little fresher.

It just occurred to me: as the first Halloween update introduced Kang and the second one Kodos, why not introduce the Rigellian female Kamala this time? It would have played nicely with the invasion motif, and you could have also introduced Bart's Rigellian body as a playable skin (he could have been altered by Professor Frink to infiltrate the enemy's forces).

I'm never dissatisfied with their offerings of older items since it gives me a chance to catch up with things I've missed from before. :D

I didn't read anything in this thread besides the thread title. I think it's a cool event, except the fact EA staggered it into 3 different phases that starts that different times this month. Some tappers like to power through events and knock it out as soon as possible. You cannot do that with this Halloween update. So for tappers how hustle and grind to reach the prizes as soon as possible, it's redundant or boring until the next phase is unlocked by EA on 10/20, etc. so that could make the event "meh" for some folks.

    Me too!

I love that after this event, I won't have an inventory full of crappy prizes I never wanted (except the ****?) in the first place, because I get to CHOOSE which prizes I craft for myself. This is a great idea!

Also, I appreciate that I am not penalized when visiting a neighbor who has stopped playing, because there are always aliens to squish.

Glad you picked up on and liked that. One of my favorite lines from the new doctor. Works very well as a catchphrase for this game too. Willie should be able to say that line.

I'm enjoying it so far. The only thing that has irked me is the daily cap with the currency from neighbours, Last year no such thing has existed. I blame the friendship points they introduced.

events should be able to be played at the pace a person wants to play not something where if you miss a day or two you can't get enough items to grab prizes because they change to the next set after a few days

But even if the prizes were on one big list instead of three separate ones, by playing at one's own pace (i.e. slowly?) a player still couldn't get everything by the end. This event is exactly what the people who very very vocally complained about the Christmas/Valentines/Easter random prize systems were asking for, so don't fault EA for giving it to them. Patience is a virtue, as it is only October 14. By the end of the event, we'll all have plenty of awesome new Halloween stuff in our towns!

Right on! I think this prize system is the best solution so far. Also by switching out prizes as the game progresses is the best way to solve for the problem of those who complain whwn the event is finished in two weeks. I do hope for some great new prizes I mean surprizes down the line
