Steam Controller randomly shoots on its own.

The Steam controller randomly shoots without any input from the user.

I used the new steam controller with no issues for a week but after the most recent update it now fires my gun randomly. The controller works fine with all of my other games. It's only doing this with battlefield 6.

I've tried turning off the controller to see if it stops and it does. As soon as it's reconnected it resumes the random firing.

I've also tried it with other controllers with no issues.

I've also disconnected all other devices to eliminate any conflicts with the same results.

I believe the controller is possibly triggering the anti-cheat flagging it as cronus zen device.

I'd also like to add that I'm not using any of the steam controller's extra features and I am using the default layout for the game.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to report this and for including all the troubleshooting you've already done. We've forwarded it to the team.

In the meantime, could you let us know:

    • Whether Steam Input is enabled or disabled for Battlefield 6.
    • Whether the issue occurs both wired and wirelessly.
    • Which Steam Controller firmware version are you using.
    • Have you also tried to delete and reset the previous settings back to the default

    Thanks.

  • Steam input is enabled for the steam controller only.

The issue persist while connected via USB cable and wirelessly.

I will have to update about the version number later.

I am using the default layout. I have not tried to reset it.

I am also having this issue, and have tried many "remedies" through online searches.  Nothing appears to be working.

Steam Input is set to Default, which is Enabled, always required, for the Steam Controller.
This issue, for me, also occurs both wirelessly and wired.
I am on whatever the most current Steam Controller firmware version is.  I am unable to find actual firmware version numbers.
There is no option to roll back controller firmware.  Additionally, this bug was present upon initial release of the Steam Controller, on stock firmware, and has continued on subsequent updates.

I've tried disabling Steam input, I've tried unplugging my mouse and keyboard while playing, I've tried loading into the game THEN turning on the controller, Ive tried unbinding all Steam Controller features such as track-pads, gyro, etc from any sort of keyboad/mouse input.  The most reasonable guess I have seen thus far suggests that this is an issue with EA Anti-cheat considering the Steam Controller an issue for some reason.  I am not sure if this is actually the case, but, considering its not happening with any other non EA games, this seems plausible.

I use a PS4 controller. This only started about a week ago, which is making me think it's a Steam issue. Not only is it firing randomly while in vehicles, but it's also acting like I'm taking my finger off the zoom. For example, I am using the M136AT and shooting at a helicopter. It stops aiming after a couple of seconds and reloads. Wired through USB, this shouldn't be happening.

Dear EA. We are customers, not free BETA testers. We report the problem, and it's the job of the developers to look into it. We want to play the game we purchased, not spend time trying to figure out what's wrong with it.

Thanks everyone for the additional details and for taking the time to test different setups. We've shared it with the team. We really appreciate your patience and the detailed reports - they're a big help.

  • Coming to say this is also happening to me. On rare occasions it doesn't happen but it's very prevalent and is really impacting my experience. When on foot / in ground vehicles I use Mouse / Keyboard but power on the Steam Controller for flight, during which time the weapon on the vehicle will repeatedly fire. If I get out the weapon will also fire repeatedly. It's also worth noting that even when this issue isn't occurring, (weapon firing), having the controller on while using mouse / keyboard causes aim down sights to jitter periodically as if it's "un-scoping" and "re-scoping" making gunplay difficult.

This has started happening to me too. Steam input is enabled for BF6, the issue happens when both wired and operating wirelessly, I'm on the latest version of the controller firmware and keep it up to date, and yes I've tried to rest the controls as well as playing with M&K unplugged and through steam big picture mode. As the other folks in this thread has said this is severely effecting my play experience and is bitterly disappointing. I hope whatever is causing it is resolved soon.
