Crashing on black screen with Skate logo

Crashing on black screen with Skate logo. 

gets to main menu fine, then you press Start and it will get as far as the black loading screen with the big skate logo, and will do a few loading kickflips and even make the "join" sound effect (?) and then crash back to desktop with no error code.
