I read that this issue was "fixed" in the latest update, but I am sad to report that this is untrue. My game always launched is 640x480 now.

Having the same issue and came here to try and find a solution, but apparently it takes 2 WEEKS for EA to "investigate" a major bug like this, losing a ton of players because of this is definitely not what they want.
