LucasFilms wanted realistic and used looking weapons to fit their gritty world. The Rebels in Andor are using weapon which are lightly modified AKs. Andor's blaster/rifle is a modified AR-15 base. The desert Stormtroopers carry a modified German MG34. The E-11 blaster is a British Sterling Sub-Machine Gun. And Boba's famous rifle the EE-3 is a Webbly and Scott Mk 1 Flare Gun from WW1.
So there is significant history with the studio using real weapons to give Star Wars that lived in universe feel. If you notice, none of the rebel fighters have scopes on their tech, to signify they are poor compared to the Imperials and the Rebellion is still in it's infancy.
