I had been running the small business with no issues for a couple of sims days, but when I set up a second business under another sim, suddenly the game wouldn’t let me close or sell the original small business no matter what I did. Even after it had been running for 24 hours the game gave me a notification that the business would automatically close, and I was relieved because my sims were exhausted (🤣) but it still didn’t close. It also wouldn’t show my employees in the manage employees task but my household sims that are employees still showed up as employees on their jobs UI. Those household employees also could not quit. And sometimes it would say that my owner sim did not own any small businesses (but customers still wouldn’t quit using the business) until I went into build mode and came back out, then it would recognize his small (forever uncloseable) business again. I tried selling and that wouldn’t work either. So I tried evicting them and moving them back in and that didn’t work either. I’m stuck with a forever open music venue in Chestnut Ridge with my sims working themselves to the bone. 😆 I even moved out my sims, deleted them and it still only recognized my lot as a small business and wouldn’t let me change the public/residential/employee only boundaries without an active business.
I took out all mods, deleted my local cache file, and repaired the game, none of these things had any effect. I am playing on a Mac.
Another note, I tried having my second sim sell her business, which she was allowed to do. But the original one was bugged and still wouldn’t close or sell.
Is the bugged one on a lot that was at some point a residential rental ?
crinrict As far as the residential rental, there’s a chance that at some point I had it as that but I don’t specifically remember a case…this is a save I’ve been playing for many years.
Think I need to start looking at save games. There's a few very similar issues now.

I have this same issue with no mods ever being installed. It is happening on multiple lots with multiple families. Sometimes if I sell the business it shows up again. Other times I cannot sell the business and it just stays open… currently going on 315 hours with one because I cannot close. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it is still happening. I’ve tried repairing as well and it did not fix. I’m playing on Windows.
Hello, I am also experiencing similar issues. My business is unable to be closed on my residential lot. 🙃I have tried closing it, selling it and nothing. Now I am stuck in limbo which led me to here.
