[BH] Small Business preset not saving properly/Error 13
When I run a small business and try to create my own custom presets, the bugs start happening.
When I save a custom preset, I can't find any of my custom presets in the list.If I move to another area or reload my game, I can see that the preset names are saved, but all the activities are gone for some reason.
After this bug happens, the game can no longer save the world properly. Every time I create and save a custom preset and then try to save the world, I get Error Code 13 (which might mean it's out of memory).
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Creating a new world (some older worlds were causing issues) didn’t work
Repairing The Sims 4 through the EA app
Deleting my old business and creating a new small business
I haven’t found any other bug report for this problem so I’m gonna file one. When I attempt to place a small business with a residential lot, in other words, I have a business on the first floor and bedrooms on the second floor, everything functions as normal until I try to save my game in which case it gives me save error 13. I can open a business if my Sims do not live on the lot, but my Sims are unable to live on the lot Because whenever I attempt to do that it causes save error 13. This is incredibly disappointing and frustrating because this was the main advertised feature of the small businesses pack and it does not work. It breaks your game. I’m on a console, no mods no cc never used. I don’t really have any hope that this is going to be fixed, but I thought I would let people know.
I lost hours of playing due to my game not saving because of Error 13. I looked it up and it said it was likely CC/mod related -- but I do not have any of those downloaded.
do you mean you have no mods/cc at all or just not the ones that were mentioned in connection with this error ?
If you have none, do you have any LastException files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 ?
- Delete the ones you have - Trigger the error again - Check if new ones are created - If that is the case, please copy/paste the content here. You can open the file with any text editor.
Deleting the file won't fix your issue. Posting the info is meant for troubleshooting.
I just got an Error Code 13 when trying to save my game. The game I was trying to save, is a new game on a new save file I just created today in order to play the Forever Friends event. I have no mods or cc. I believe I'm playing on a Windows 11 PC. I do own add-ons. I am repairing the game right now. How did I encounter this? Today (Wednesday September 24th, 2025), I created a young adult sim, a child sim, and an infant sim. I started a brand new game on a new save file to work on the Forever Friends event. I managed to complete week one but decided to keep playing with the family I was using. I noticed things going wrong when I had used Cupid's Corner to find a sim to meetup with. My child Sim was at school, so I traveled to meetup with the sim I met on Cupid's Corner, that action sent my infant to daycare. At the meetup location the game was being slow and not responding. I would have actions for my Sim to do and she would keep freezing and just standing there not completing the action. I kept pausing the game and un-pausing it and oddly enough it would help the sim finish the action she was doing. It still went slow though. Eventually I parted ways with the Sim I was hanging out with and went back to my Sim's house. My child Sim did homework, while my adult sim practiced sitting up with my infant sim and I noticed the game would make the (sound effect/music) and do animations as if my infant achieved the sitting up milestone but the popup notification saying the milestone was achieved never came, and my infant never sat up. I have my infant practice tummy time and a similar thing happened; the game acted as if the infant achieved a milestone but nothing happened. I also noticed my child Sim never got the "first day of school" milestone. I decided it was time to log off the game and try again later and that's when I discovered it would not save.
Hi Crinrict, it's not me, but my daughter, so I'll have to ask her if she ever got it fixed. But if it's mod related, that's good news. I was more or less just pointing out that the save error codes should get higher priority since it affects whether or not you can save your progress. Other bugs are annoying and should be fixed of course, but it's a huge problem if someone's save gets lost. Thank you, and have a great night!
I’m having the same issue. I made a small business, it ran normally until the owner died. I had a new sims buy and re-register the business (they live on a different lot), but when then I tried to save and got error 13. I tried making my sim go home and tried saving again and again got error 13.
So I went to manage worlds, I loaded into a different household, and then saved. This time the save worked, and I assumed it had saved all progress up to that point, since I only went to manage worlds, but I didn’t back out to the main menu (and iv done this work around before with success).
However, after successfully saving, I had this current household visit the small business in question and it had erased all progress. The business was once again owner-less and needed to be registered again. Wtf.
We shouldn’t have to do backflips to get the game to function properly, especially when the small businesses are causing the game not to save. Fix. The. Game. We paid good money for these packs and we can’t even save progress.
