There's an issue where the animals get stuck in the household inventory. Are you sure they are in the shed and not stuck ?
I am having the same issue with animals not coming out, no ZZZ is shown at night, I checked my household inventory and the cow and llama (which i sold) where there but it wouldn't let me place them on the shed or normal ground, it says they need to be placed on a specific item, I thought that would've been the shed
