I am also having this issue. I can x out of the ad, but my screen is greyed out after and I can't press any buttons. The only way to exit the game is to quit the app from my desktop. This happens every single time I open the game :,)
I have the Sims 4 Standard Edition, version 1.113.297.1220. I have Snowy Escape, Seasons, Romantic Garden Stuff, Parenthood, Outdoor Retreat, My First Pet Stuff, Laundry Day Stuff, Island Living, Holiday Celebration Pack, High School Years, Discover University, Desert Luxe Kit, Cottage Living, and Cats and Dogs installed.
Has anyone found a solution for this??
