Just gave this a try with a new Sim. Created a child and then made them occult (not create as occult). Works fine.
I also tested an an existing child with fulleditmode and it still works with no issues.
Could you test another child to see if it's limited to that one child ?
It worked for the new child but not the existing one. It seems to be for some odd reason limited to the one child.
Is the child somehow related to another occult Sim (like not an alien but for example a Vampire) and had occult genes before ?

No, the parents are one full alien sim and one human sim so the child was a half alien before but I made them full alien from the pick an occult. The sims name is the Star Berry Family and the creator name is Jbuddaflyy
