With the help of the SAD discord folks, I did some testing on this. There could be more to this and this seems to only apply to mermaids and not aliens but maybe it helps someone here. Let me know if it could be something else for you.
These are the repro steps for editing a mermaid and adding a certain tattoo
- Create a new mermaid
- Put Sim in a home
- Use the mirror to change Sim
- Unlink forms
- Change to mermaid form
- Put any a specific tattoo on your Sim (probably not all have been identified, so far there's 6 game ones see pics, credits to NeedCoffee4That. Also some from GTW and DU)
- Click Ok
- Click ok again.
- Game crashes
The crash didn't occur if I used manage world to edit Sims or left the forms linked
