Items are getting stuck in the grab hand when moving from stacks to inventory

Trying to move anything between storage (ex: the fridge) and the sims inventory is moving the first stack and then automatically selecting another object in the storage. The next item or stack select...

I want to thank the person that pointed out that items can be dragged onto a surface instead of going straight into the Sim's inventory. This workaround can make the game playable. I might also add that storage units made by modders do not have this issue so far.

I tested with new save and no mods and the issue persists.
