I hadn't seen the curse for a little bit and thought perhaps the bug was fixed. But tonight, it reappeared. One of my kids aged up to teen. No ring on in CAS but live mode shows him wearing the darn thing and gave him the cursed moodlet. (edited: No mods used and no CC used for this save)
