Newlyweds can't cut first slice of wedding cake

It's the middle of the wedding event, they've exchanged their vows, she's baked a cake and put a wedding topper on it, but now she can't "take a piece" or "take a piece together" .. these options are greyed out, with the message "You must wait for the newlyweds to take the first slice."

If we have to wait for the newlyweds to take the first slice before the newlyweds can take the first slice, we have an impossible circle.

I did wonder if having a club gathering active was messing with it, although it's never been a problem before, but ending the club gathering and making just my sim and her spouse a group by themselves didn't fix the problem. She does have the option to "cut wedding cake" but I did that in a previous attempt at this playthrough a few days ago and while she can eat the cake and get a nice moodlet from it, she can't do the tradition of sharing the cake with her spouse.

Also the caterer she paid for never showed up, but that's a different issue. The bride having to bake her own wedding cake in her wedding dress after exchanging vows wasn't how I planned it.

Ugh so I bought a cake from a Tartosian during the wedding, then placed it in the world. No option to "Cut the Cake" but there's "Take a Piece" and I think I figured out WHY.... kinda.

My Sim does NOT OWN the cake. So you can't do anything with it. Again, the items ownership in this game is wonky af (esp if you move households around) and I wish they'd just do away with that. So yeah, can't finish the event goal.

Though I can't speak for anyone who baked their own cake or any other scenarios. Can't even edit the event in the calendar to put the cake in the "wedding cake" slot so there's that.
