Painting doesn't always appear/blank under certain circumstances

I have this issue, of Paint by reference Paintings turning blank when resuming a game. I tested with a no mods (MCC & Ui cheats), brand new save game. 

Everything updated, all packs except a few kits.

The photo taken of same scene. The second painting, also Paint by Reference I put in inventory before dragging to wall, as a test.
