[PH] Super Parent: Cannot complete last milestone with nonbiological child

I have a family called Reynolds. I made them because I noticed a household in manage households that just had a child with no parents, Sullivan. Lil dude looked like such a cute baby nerd, wearing a tie and everything, and I was sad to imagine him running around the world with no parents.

So I created two parents for Sullivan in CAS using the genetics feature, made the parents spouses, and put them into Glimmerbrook to play. However, when I moved them into the lot, Sullivan's original mom's urn was waiting just inside the threshold. Creepy! RIP!

But OK. It saw Kim as Sullivan's biological dad, and Shannon as his stepmom. I had Shannon adopt him as a care dependent. I set the original mom's urn on the dresser. After awhile, they had another kid, Callie.

Kim and Shannon raised Sullivan well and he just aged up to a young adult with three positive character value traits. Both parents had the Super Parent aspiration active on Sullivan's birthday. Kim, the biological parent, has their check mark next to the "have a child age up with 3 positive character traits" and Shannon, the step-parent, does not.

I guess she'll have to wait for Callie to grow up to get her check mark, which is sad because the idea of getting the aspiration trait with Sullivan was to be able to help Callie more effectively. But Kim will have to handle that.

This aspiration is supposed to work for any type of parent, not just bio parents. I saw an old closed bug report on this issue that asked for a save file, but no one ever posted one, so I am uploading my save for you to look at. I have no mods or CC downloaded at all, so that's not a factor. I am playing through the EA app and everything's up to date.

Here is my save file.

I am not using mods or CC, I have never tried that.

Here is the link to the archived bug report:

Additionally, here are some screenshots. Here you can see that Sullivan got Compassionate, Good Manners and Responsible.

Kim, who the game sees as biologically Sullivan's dad, has achieved the Child with 3 Positive Character Values item.

Shannon, who the game sees as Sullivan's stepmom, does not have the aspiration item checked off.

Sullivan's genealogy is the only one that shows his original mom at all. RIP on the dresser, Cayla.

Kim's genealogy just shows their current wife and two kids, Callie shared with Shannon, and Sullivan not shared.

Shannon's genealogy shows the same configuration, but flipped. You can see that it has Sullivan as her step son.

The urn was inert when I loaded up the family to play, we have never once been haunted, so the ghost of Cayla must have been purged before I even knew she existed. I don't know if that dead-and-very-gone original mom factors into the issue at all, but I thought it was interesting.

Shannon adopted Sullivan as a care dependent when he was still in grade school and has been very involved in helping to raise him the whole time. I have a theory that maybe when a teen ages up to young adult, since a young adult can't be a care dependent, it gets rid of the care dependent attribute tying him to his step-mom at some point earlier in the process than the point where it checks if parenting aspirations have been fulfilled? Or maybe it marks it as inactive in some way and the aspiration doesn't check for former care dependency?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Yeah, that's still open from what I can tell.

I see you changed the status to “needs info” - What additional info would be helpful?

Since you already provided your save, there's nothing more needed. It's mostly for others to also provide their saves and to match the old  thread.

I reproduced this issue in a new save with a new family, and I have for you the save from right before and right after the kid ages up. This zip file contains a before folder with the before save, an after folder with the after save, and a folder with some screenshots.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HgQj6rttFSIaYm7OKk9GpgUtqHURp6Ta/view?usp=share_link

The way I reproduced this issue is:

Create a kid, create his mother and his father using genetics, make the father a ghost, create an unrelated household member to be his mother's new spouse, set the spouses as married. When I loaded the family into a house I immediately set the tombstone for the father in the garden and had him go into the light so his ghosty self would not be a factor in their lives from then on. The step-parent immediately adopted him as a care dependent. Then, the living parent and step-parent raised the heck out of him, instilling all the character values they could. When he aged up, he got 4 positive traits. His bio mom got the achievement in the super parent aspiration and his step mom did not.

I am hopeful that providing the before save will allow you to do some sort of trace while the age-up happens and see where the process goes wrong.

Possibly related, very disconcerting - the sim’s stepmother, once he aged up, had romance interactions available for him. Still shows in the family tree as his stepmom but lost the parental boundaries that should be lifelong! I had him move out so nothing would happen autonomously. :(
