I've been doing a lot of testing on my own. As far as I can tell, the bug introduced with the January patch has been resolved, at least I have been unable to trigger it despite all my best attempts.
The new issue I see people having is that in trying to recover lost photos from old saves, the method of using the gallery to transfer photos between saves works only for photos taken with the phone or camera. "Generated" photos like graduation pictures, Lovestruck reward photos, photobooth photos etc cannot be transferred this way and will turn black when imported from the gallery.
I'm guessing this is because this type of photo is created in a different way from normal photos?
So far this issue has been 100% replicable for me. Just put the photos in a room, save to gallery, place the room back on lot and they will turn black. But again, this only affects these "special" photos. Normal photos are imported without issue.
