I dont know if anyone had this bug before the 10/22/24 update but maybe the cas occult switch feature that came out with the 10/22/24 update caused this bug and the only way for them to fix this bug is to remove that cas occult switch feature from the game. I doubt they would ever remove a new feature like that from the game to fix a bug even though it is kind of a pointless feature. Except for aliens and mermaids because they have no other method of removing their occult status besides cheats and I have found using cheats on aliens and mermaids to remove their occult status tends to be more complicated and glitchy compared to other occults. For mermaids it would have made more sense if they added an item in the rewards store like the mermaid kelp but instead it cured existing mermaids when eaten. I don't understand why that option has never been in the rewards store.
There's no need to cheat to remove the mermaid form. I've done it. If you want to cure a mermaid, purchase 2 mermaid kelps from the reward store and eat them both before the buff from the first one wears off. If you take too long to eat the 2nd one, it won't turn you back into a non-occult sim.
That works on sims that are already mermaids? If so, then the new cas occult switcher is more pointless and it would have been nice if that information was in the game somewhere. It sounds more like a glitch to be honest.
Edit: I tested that eating 2 mermaid kelp thing on sims that are already mermaids and it worked. Thanks for that information.
